Just bought iPad Air 5 this week, no regrets. I agree that it would be a bad time to upgrade from an existing iPad but I didn’t have one to begin with, And the iPad Air 5 has been really great. M2 is honestly not that interesting, I think M1 is still plenty for an iPad. But for starting fresh there’s not much point in waiting

I think I will keep my iPad Pro M1 12.9" for a couple more years.

I think it was worth an upgrade from iPad Pro 12.9" with A12Z due to the screen and speed upgrade, as this is what I did back on 2021.

I honestly like the ipad pro design. But also, it doesn’t need the M3 chip since I have the M1 and it runs fast enough. Maybe if they add magsafe, and an oled screen it’ll be a good enough upgrade.

I think it’s safe to say Apple was limited in doing major changes 2020-2022. There was a major global pandemic that shut down or majorly slowed chip and component production in China.

7th gen iPad and 6gen both have an A10, so this is probably why they put an A12 in iPad 8th gen

The budget iPad will get the M1 Chip with 7 core GPU. Apple has a stock pile of M1 chips they need to use up. The iPad air will be refreshed with an M2 chip 8 core GPU.

I just got and iPad Air M1 chip 256 GB with Apple Pencil 2 for a total of $984 at Amazon. I couldn’t resist. Nice video(brand new ships and sold by Amazon)

Given that my M1 iPad Pro continues to be overkill and runs everything I do amazingly well, I seriously doubt I'll be upgrading that to the M3 when that comes out in 2024. Can't wait to see videos on the new iPad Pros though!

Yup, your last point is the best. The “budget” 2022 iPad 10 may actually be quite affordable after the 11 comes out. However, it’s mostly sold out where I live, so maybe Apple can’t or isn’t producing that many because they’re making the 11s now.

What is holding me back buying a new iPad is not the hardware but the software! At the recent price point of an iPad Pro it should be able to run the same software as a MacBook…
