How to create keyboard shortcuts in Premiere Pro

To create your own keyboard shortcuts in Premiere Pro, you need two things, a hand, and a keyboard.

The first thing you do is to click “opt + cmd + K” on your keyboard simultaneously, or “Ctrl + Alt + K” on PC.

You can also find this window in the menu under "Premiere Pro".

Here you have a list of all your commands and shortcuts in the bottom left corner, a visual view of a keyboard to see what shortcuts you have and if you click any of the keys in this keyboard layout, all the commands that are assigned to that key will be shown in the bottom right corner.

So, let's say you want to create a shortcut for increasing the volume of a clip.
If you search for "Volume" and then click next to “Nudge volume +1dB”, an empty box will get selected.

If you now hold down any of the modifier keys, which are the dark grey keys you can see on the screen, you will see all the shortcuts (or key combinations) where that modifier key is used.

As you can see, if you hold down “opt + cmd”, you can see that the key 1 is available, so I'm going to click 1 while still holding down “opt” and cmd” and now you have assigned the shortcut “alt + opt + 1” to this command.

Now, your shortcut is created and if you want to remove it again, just click the little cross inside this square.

Just an idea for a video title. You could make it something like:

These Keyboard Shortcuts Will Save You Hours Editing!

Then a thumbnail that reflects that. It will help draw in more viewers. Great content by the way 👍🏼

I've got the problem with the Alt Key. When I press it, Premiere pro switches from the Timeline panel to "File". It's really annoying since the Alt key is used very frequently. I use ALT+scroll-wheel to zoom in and out. Afterwards, the menu bar is focused, so when I press Space bar to pause the video, I get the typical Windows DING sound and it drives me insane. Is there anyway to fix this problem?

Thank you. The UI in 2025 doesn't make this clear at all...

Horrible UX, how would one know there's an hidden empty box over there to click on it? Adobe's UX designers are ones of the worst in history.
