true that... I think you hit the nail on the head about the prayer thing. The norse Gods empower ourself to use our own abilities. And the others are praying for the divines to do the work in their stead.

In continental Germanic practice (if that matters to you, some consider it just as important, others focus on the Norse more exclusively, I myself support more local versions depending on where you are), it has been shown via a metal figure I believe a Suebian (identified by his Suebian knot hair cut, and the area it was found in) to be kneeling on one leg and the other not, with his arms up to the sky as if to receive something, and looking up with his head. So yes bowing can and did occur, this does not necessarily denote a belief that your are lesser to a god as a person, but perhaps more like a mentor relationship or father-son relationship, or perhaps even one of a chieftain/elder-average villager relationship in terms of ranking. So you got your message correct, but the specific detail of bowing is not entirely true. Otherwise you are correct however.

Yes I think we humans like to paint gods to look like us. They are made in our image! Or they appear to us in the image that they know we will be able to relate best to.

12 years ago my 98 year old grandfather who brought "his father's gods" from Denmark passed away... in his life he had been forced into the German military, held as a POW in Britain, lived in Ireland for a time then was contracted by the United states government for who knows what. Through all of this he held onto a belief system that was totally alien to the people around him. Yet he kept it to himself ish my grandfather's gods are the antithesis of modern paganism with their "I'm special" attitude. As a teenager I asked him what the symbol of Heimdall (whose hall he always said he would go to) his he threw a rock at me .... the point was that Heimdall didn't need one and neither did we because we don't need to be shiny we shine through our actions.

Interesting to me is the concept of "evolving" jewelry, i didn't know others did that but i have been doing it myself. I bound myself to the gods with an armring, the deal was that it would break when i was ready for an upgrade. I recently made somewhat of a breakthrough and guess what? Arm ring broke the same week. So now i am waiting for the new one to come in.

Great info. With being a "Fyrnsidu" most people think i follow the Scandinavian tradition of Heathenry (which isn't too bad i guess) but don't realize that England and Germany had their own traditions prior to the viking age.

I enjoyed this! My only thoughts on your points would be:

1. I wouldn't describe the gods themselves as mortal in the strictest of terms; even though the Ragnarök says that they die (depending on which interpretation of it you uphold, ) they're not of this world or existence. They come to our existence in various forms, but that's only a very small part of who and what they are - a paintbrush touching canvas in the hands of it's creator.

2. Not much to say on this one (but there is historical evidence of kneeling as a sign of respect; I know you were more juxtaposing groveling and over-reliance on the divine.)

3. I liked what you said about the Mjolnir being a statement! My only disagreement would be the size, that "Bigger = More Knowledge" or the like. I know that the one that I wear is fairly big, the chain ornate and tipped with wolves, but for myself I wear it because I like it - and because there's no small part of me that wants it to be noticed as a statement in a very Christian-heavy environment. But I wouldn't gauge how much someone knows off the size of their Mjolnir; I would weigh that with what they say, how they behave, etc. For example I once met a guy who wore a HUGE Mjolnir, who had named himself the "Wandering Goði" - which is pretty contradictory to the role. He knew only basics, and was quick to turn a conversation into a "how much do you know I bet I know more" contest.

Great video though!

In my own journey and wearing of the hammer, I will hold it when I find an injured or dead animal in my path (cat, dog, squirrels usually) and hope for them to have the wisdom and navigation to find a place to sit and be loved by the gods. With cats I will hold my hammer in hopes they find Freyja. I Hope that isn't against anything or is asking for favour of the gods, I do not ask them to take them in, I hope for the animals spirit itself can find its way. Still learning the Old Way, glad I was guided to your channel, learning lots <3

I would argue the reason why gods take the forms resembling those that worship them but with the best perceived physical forms boils down to what better way to communicate with people spirits and demons do the same thing

Aces are mortal, Deities are not. It is better understood when it is states: Our Ancestors (Aces) are our Deities, and we're their children. But a very good video. We do not fall to our knees before our Deities, we talk with them. Great vid!
