Activist, scholar, performance artist and original member of the Black Lives Matter Movement, Funmilola Fagbamila, discusses the history of BLM and strategies for self-care amidst a taxing and demanding political climate. Burnout is a familiar phenomenon in activist circles and social justice communities. This presentation will engage the balance between community organizing and self-sustenance, and strategies for activists to employ for optimal wellness. Lastly, Fagbamila will perform an abridged version of her stage play The Intersection: Woke Black Folk. Called "timely, brilliant and necessary" by Angela Davis, it is a public dialogue on the complexities of Black political identity.
