When I made my decision to buy the house I am currently in, I researched the area for the following:
1. Was it in a flood zone area- no
2. Was it far enough away from any metropolitan areas- yes
3. Is it close enough to a forest/national park- yes ( 30-40 minutes away)
4. Good soil for growing crops- oh yeah!
5. Access to water- yes
6. Is it prone to earthquakes/volcanos - no
7. Is the community like minded enough so that they would pull together in a crisis - this one was a guessing game but came to find out that most of my neighbours were of the same mind set that I am, so that became a big plus!

Observation of all surroundings is of utmost importance.

Circumstances are the controlling factors. Safety and continued health should be the main concern, especially if you are elderly or disabled.

I always remember Warrior Poet saying “bugging out makes you a glorified refugee” and to me that’s the truest interpretation of what bugging out actually means.
When I see people in comments sections say something akin to “immediately throw all your possessions away and run for the hills” I often feel they are overconfident in their own abilities and equipment to really make it.

Dustin. Very well thought out and presented video.Thank you. During any emergency situation, it is, as you pointed out, important to scan multiple sources for any reliable news, trust what you can verify and reject what may be false. Then, as clearly outlined beginning near the 18 minute mark, make any decisions regarding a change of plan. We will stay put (bug in) unless there are clear indications it is time to go. Hopefully, ahead of the pack. I am not so sure MIL (Mother-In-Law) is up for a 200 + klick hike, nearly half of it up steep mountain roads. She might well decide to stay here at home base and take her chances. I will then have to deal with Beautiful Bride refusing to leave here Mom. I know many will say a reliable bug-out vehicle is the answer. It can be but not always. A large van or decked out pickup truck full of gear might well become a target.Traveling light and inconspicuously may be the better option. Stay safe and stay alert out there.

I've been to Sri Lanka 2 Years ago....no gas, martial law, rolling black outs, massive civil unrest. found the most expensive hotel I could. Why? 24/7 gated security, pool, gym, buffets and internet. Waited 1 week to get out. Prepping is applicable for just about every situation

I made my choice already due to age and health! I would simply be a moving target for others, so I'll just stay put till the end comes! I'm not doing the lone wolf thing, not in my condition! Best of luck to those young, strong and smart! 👍🇺🇸

Looks like my goose is cooked. Societal collapse ain't good for the elderly. When I was younger, I spent time in the Army Infantry. That physical stuff was a piece of cake. Now just getting up from the chair I am sitting on is a great effort. Besides there are no guarantees in life. No use in complaining.

My plan is to bug in for 2 weeks. If it doesn't have any sign of improvement I'll head out

Prepper or not.. your best bet is to stay at home under nearly every conceivable circumstance but the most serious flooding or wind damage. Your home is a domicile, a hostpital, a blanket, your antibiotic, a gas mask, a fallout shelter, a rain catch, a washing machine, a lookout tower, a dryer, your cover, your concealment, your food supply, your blacksmithing and tinkerwing workshop, a church, kitchen and a coffin all in one.

A lot of people will try to make it to the off grid cabin several States over and run out of gas. And even if you can make the trip without a gas station in normal conditions.. you'll be stuck in traffic and can deplete your fuel especially in winter so adapt accordingly.

Me personally I would still live in my home and cook out of the attic crawlspace to stay warm and dry if my home was flooded with 4 feet of water. And i would use the bathroom in a bucket and use a hammer to make a vent for ventillation because cooking inside is poisonous. And I would make sure my Carbonmonoxide detector was right in that attic crawlspace too. Thats how I feel bit im a prepper already.. but even I dont have everything I need yet. It takes several years to build up.. then you can eat all your food, shoot all your ammo, cook out all the propane, and have to start over. So lets start over.

I know this doesn't really apply to this video, but I got my two new 48-Gal rainwater barrels up and ready. I filled them up to get a jump start on them with some bleach. I'm only using them for NON-potable water, emergencies only. Not a big deal I know, but for me it is since I live this dry climate area.

Thank you for pointing out all the benefits to bugging in
As a senior disabled apartment dweller it is the only option for me.
Build your local networks especially availability of food
I read a comment from a veteran one day who mentioned in war torn countries that it was the cities who got the infrastructure reinstated first, something for people to think about.

The biggest issue with bugging in - besides humans, is when sanitation stations stop pumping and people's sewage / drains start backing up into their homes brings deadly gasses and will cause illness and even death. If people plan to bug in they need an alternative shelter than their houses after a short period.

Great video. Remember no one knows your house like you do. You have the advantage over the bad guys. I'm not leaving my house unless my house is on fire and I can't put it out. Again you have all the advantages by staying in your own house no one knows it like you do. Also avoid all fights you can. Only fight or shoot if you have to. I'm disabled from the military and this is my plan.

Your video shows u that there are no easy solutions to emergency situations. It generally turns into a survival of the fittest scenario. United we stand. Divided we fall.

On a nice summer day take a long walk out of town on a trail. About 1 mile. Find a spot well off the trail and dig/build a survival hut big enough for your need(number lf people). Stock it with supplies. Then when the shtf you have somewhere to go if needed. You can get to it quickly and still be close enough to town to get more supplies or information.
