Most Bugout Bags are Stupid 🚫🎒

If you've been at my channel for a minute, you know that I think the concept of bugout bags in general are stupid.

A lot of the time, I see the prepping community refer to the "bugout bag" like some sort of romantic end-of-the-world fantasy where they think they are going to escape into the woods with their family and live there forever. Some preppers even refer to the bugout bag as the "I'm Never Coming Home" (INCH) Bag. And this just isn't even a realistic possibility - in fact, if you're planning to do this, your probably going to die.

The reality is if you are using a "bugout bag," you really can't go much more than 72 hours with it. And if you have a family with kids, a bugout bag will just not be sufficient to survive a real emergency... you need real emergency equipment for that.

If you're going to have an emergency bag, Everything in this bag should be built in mind to keep you moving until you get to your next destination... you don't want to be stopping to fish or hunt and skin animals in the woods.

In a recent video, I explain how to fix your bugout bag if you have prepared it like this:

This is one less guy to worry about 72 hours into the disaster

The things he mentioned that were stupid are light weight have multiple uses and if having to go 96 hrs you'll be glad you had it. Always start your bug out bag for the worst scenario, you can always discard items if you know from point A to point B isnt needed.

Title should be "Feds tell you not to be prepared " 😂

Bad advice. Don't take unnecessary shit for sure but you can only take so much packaged food and once you run out now you have no survival tools . Your bug out bag is to provide the tools to assist in your survival

I agree that a bugout bag isnt an inch bag.

I agree that their primary purpose is to get you to a preplanned safe location that is already stocked with supplies.

But you fail to account for unforeseen circumstances.

What if your primary bugout location is compromised? Now your 72 hour bugout just got extended while you head to your alternate.

What if your alternate and contingency locations are compromised?

A bugout bag should allow for a few weeks of inconvenient camping. It should have a metal container to boil water. It should have a single heavier duty tarp in case your lightweight bivy gets damaged. You should have the ability to reinforce a shelter, maybe with a camping trowel and a small folding saw.

And yes, carrying less than a pound of fishing or trapping gear, just in case your 72 hours turn into finding your way into a park for a few weeks while waiting for things to settle down.

Im not saying you should bring gear to cover every possibility, it needs to cover a PACE plan for the main survival categories such as food, water, fire, and shelter.

My bugout bag is designed to make me better at being a refugee, not to live in the woods forever. Stuff like a tent and a Grayl Geopress will make a world of difference whether in the woods or a FEMA camp

You don't even need the propane stove, it's extra weight just to warm up food.

I moved to Latin America 27 years ago and I stopped using back packs almost immediately people will steal stuff right off your back and you will never know it . plus they scream "Tourist".
I use a cordura duffel bag, the best I have found are from a company called Fireforce don't use polyester bags the rip open very quickly.
Keep the zipper opening on the front.

This seems like advice for a specific bugout plan. Not saying it’s bad, there is not a one size fits all, only basics to start with. Carry as much as you can if you stay on your planned pace. Also it depends on how well stocked your destination is, or even if you have one.

I have noticed that going to my summerhouse with one bag shows what is needed. Water. Toiletries. Medicine. Food. Knife. Multitool. Powerbank. Clothes to change. It's not perfect but it's usable for me almost every weekend.

Don't bring food that requires cooking. Take jerky, nuts, cereal bars, cheese & crackers, etc. and save space/money from not getting cooking equipment.

Mine is a "get home bag." To think you can survive long from what you carry in a backpack is a plan to fail.

So fishing line and hooks are out of the question, but I need to bring a portable propane burner lol

A layered approach makes much more sense to me.

If the world is ending, I’m driving. If I’m driving, I’m not only taking an axe, I’m taking chainsaws. I’m taking thousands of rounds of ammunition. I’m taking valuables. I’m taking actual fishing rods. On and on.

If I can’t drive I’m taking a bike with a trailer. My limit on a bike without taking a major mobility hit is still significantly higher than walking, and should the bike be robbed, I’ll be down to a pack like this.

Bugging out is a fantasy. Most situations, bugging in will be the better option. It’s where all your supplies are and where your family is. Where are you bugging out? Do you have a fully stocked cabin in the woods? Hotel? Randomly into the wilderness? If you have family can they handle bugging out and do they have the gear necessary? Or are you just saying fuck em and going lone wolf? What about your pets? It is much smarter to have 3–6 months of supplies in your home while training concealed carry pistol skills and medical, maybe throw in a defensive carbine class. Fear mongers like Canadian prepper, who if you looked at their page, you’d think we be dead 5 times over come to mind.

this comment section is funny. everyone thinks they will have a safe place to go to. there is no guarantee that your point B will be there or is safe. as well as the competition from the rest of society looking for a safe place too.
