About 35 years ago I was fishing the South Jettie at Ponce Inlet and got. 2 oz. Pyramid sinker stuck in some rock about 50 feet out. I pulled on the line to break it off but it came loose and that sinker came launching outta the water like a Polaris Missle going about 200 MPH and it and it hit me right square in my right knee cap. That hurt.

Probably good advice, but I'll have to look up the setup somewhere else because it skipped over it too quick for me.

Been doing this for 30 years. It also keeps the crabs from stealing baits.

Makes me glad when people use old timer methods in areas where you wouldn't ever think they were meant for

Use a bobber setup like you would us on steelhead in the PNW and you can adjust the length of the leader with a bobber knot

slip floats, popper/splasher floats, "clacker" float rigs, floating splash or popper plug lure with light dropper jig.. yeah !

I use something in moving streams called a flex-o-drop sinker. It has a swivel at one end, you run it like a fish finder with a small jig or some bait. Its essentially a pipe cleaner filled with shot so it undulates like a snake. It almost never hangs up unless you pause and it drops into a snag. Otherwise it scoots over them. Which is where the fish are.

In uk we call it slider float method. Float stopped by a stop knot at predetermined depth.

The best part of this video was when he showed how to rig the slip sinker bobber rig.

I love those Thills. I've caught thousands of fish like that. It's my number one rig. 👍

It has a time and place, just not as effective on calm water. I've been using a bombarda sinking float which works well with spinners, spoons crank baits, plugs, etc. Sliding floats I only use on rivers or chopy water

secret for not getting hung up on the bottom: not fishing the bottom hahaha. using a float. who would have thought lmao

Wish I knew this 30 years ago when I used to fish the jetties underneath both the Whitestone Bridge and Throgsneck Bridge in NY.
Always got my stuff stuck. You have to cut the line and lose your lures and everything. Rats were huge and the currents unforgiving!

I tried this. it worked great. I drew a fish in water with a shrimp as bait. No matter how I drew it, my rig didn't het hung up.

or just use a normal sinker with the metal line so if it gets snagged it can be pulled out easier

That's the rig I use when I'm using bait. All the time. I fish freshwater just about all the time but I believe I caught my speckled trout the same way.
