I like to believe that they're either related to some ancestors or have evolved in similar ways convergently, for example characters like Recoome and several members of Frieza forces who look like humans could have evolved to look closer to our humanoid structure

Viltrumites were confirmed to have the same ancestor as humans. So, this is likely the same for humans and Saiyans.

Only difference between saiyans and humans is adaptability. We both were monkeys, just the size difference. They adapted to make themselves smaller to conserve energy and transform back when required (under moon circumstances only thou). They adapt to harsher environment quicker than us.

My head canon is that the universe has a “base template” (humanoid) which comes from Zeno, the kais, and angels (they’re all humanoid). Almost all intelligent life in DB looks similar due to this.

I mean, there is an extreme similarity to the Rage Boost that Saiyans receive and Hysterical Strength that humans gain, both of which are in adrenaline intensive environments and are just temporary boosts in strength.

Furthermore, they share similar traits in terms of Zenkai. Saiyans grow in power when their body is broken, much like how a human bone will grow back stronger after breaking.

The only difference is that Saiyans are more prone to transformations, witch might be a result of growing in a much more intense and dangerous environment than Humans, thus evolving the ability to transform and harness an increase in strength at a consistent rate that would not harm the body like Hysterical Strength.

As far as I remember, viltrumites used to be essentially humans who used different genetic alterations to give themselves powers. Which is why they're so similar to humans, have amazing compatibility with them, and likely why they can have children with nearly any species

I honestly don't think it's that deep. I think that any human-looking races in Dragon Ball can probably mate. In other words, Saiyan, Earthlings, Cerealians, Recoome's race, etc... should probably all be able to mate. They all most likely have the same reproductive parts. To be honest, even some other races like Cheelai's race would probably be compatible considering that Cheelai's body looks pretty humanoid aside from her skin color. I don't know how Tarble is going to do anything with Gure however.

Humanity in Dragonball is not the same as Humanity in real life

In dragonball you have people who are born with an extra eye, people born without a nose, people who can turn into wolves, people who are wolves who turn back into human
The human president is literally a dog, theres pig people, bird people, cat people, etc etc etc

Remember Goku had a monkey tail and no one cared, people were more worried about Goku being bullet proof than having a tail

With how genetically diverse and malleable dragonball humanity is i think the reason Saiyans can breed with humans as less to do with the Saiyan's dna and more to do with the human's dna
