So I've got a MacBook Pro from 2009 - and it stopped receiving OS updates from Apple back in 2018. But today, I'm gonna try and install macOS Sequoia on this thing by making use of the OpenCore Legacy Patcher!

For anyone who’s been through the nightmare of a macOS install that doesn’t connect to Apple servers, the fact this can download old disk images is amazing.

As someone who does not really like mac etc, I am always amazed at the people out there keeping older equipment going.

Crazy how that looks exactly like my 2017 air, they really didn't change the design much till 2018

That UGREEN charger is probably the only YouTube sponsor that I'd actually consider buying. The faces are adorable XD

Normally opencore legacy patcher will install the post root patches during the install but because you created the macOS installer then you chose the Mac model it didn’t automatically install it and copy it to the usb drive

I’m running macOS Sequoia on my own MacBook Air 2017 right now using this method, I just upgraded over the air I didn’t need a USB drive at all!

I work at a computer repair store and we get MacBook pros like this old all the time. Every time I throw an SSD in, do opencore and get Mac OS going. It’s a lot of fun to mess around with it and see if it works well

I’ve learned over the years that a 15 year old MacBook is a solid Win 10 system as well. Great video 👍

Good afternoon MJD.

I have my old Macbook Pro 2012 model (A1278), maxed it out with 16 gb ram and 500gb ssd many years ago .

Running on Sequoia very smoothly indeed. As the last official update for mine was Big Sur (I think). Better to be used, than sitting in a landfill.

Thank you for the tutorial! It really helped me to revive an old iMac 27" 2, 8 GHz Quad-Core intel i7 (Late 2009). With a new SSD and some more RAM (16 GB in total now) and MacOS Sequoia installed with Open Core Legacy Patcher 2.2.0, it is I am amazed how smooth it works. Everything is working apparently, Wi-fi, Bluethooth, SD slot, CD-DVD rom, camera and no problems with Sleep Mode. The booting is a bit slow (and weird), but not that bad. Hopefully there will be only minor bugs along the way.

I installed Sonoma to my previous MacBook Pro 2016 using OCLP and it works basically flawlessly. It's amazing how well this works

Happy to witness your successful use of this remarkable software to revivify an older MacBook. I have Sequoia running on both a MacBook Air and a Pro from early 2015 after the same process. I kept making mistakes and had to restart something like six times (!) at first, but finally got it done and both are running perfectly and with all the speed I (as a "normal" home user) need. Totally pleased! Thanks for a very good video.

12:23 It will only have the patcher if you created the install USB from the Mac you're updating and upgraded the current OS to Sequoia. Since your SSD was completely fresh, there was no patcher post-install.

can we just appreciate that this computer got OFFICIAL support from Apple for 9 years?! Wow
