In this easy to understand video, I’ll tell you what happens to our bodies after death and walk you through the changes the body undergoes from the moment a person dies right through the various post-mortem stages.

Post-Mortem changes refer to the series of changes that occur to a body after death. The stages that follow shortly after death are:

- Algor Mortis
- Pallor Mortis
- Rigor Mortis
- Livor Mortis
- Decomposition (Putrefaction)

Thank you for this very clear and understandable video. I brought my mom home from urgent care on my birthday around 9pm. I watched her walk in her house for the last time. After she didn't answer her phone the next day I took my key and went to her house and found her dead in her bathroom. I knew she never made it to bed that night and often wondered how sin after going in the house did she die. When my husband attempted to roll her over to rescusitate her and I saw how stuff her leg was I knew she was gone. 😢😢. This really helps me understand her death.

I spoke to my husband by phone at 9 a.m. He was last seen at his favorite hangout between 10 a.m. and 10: 30 a.m. I found him at 6:30 p.m. and he was in full rigor, ice cold and hard as a rock, so it did not take him as long to be in full rigor as they say it takes. He was on the floor in a fetal position on his right side as had been working on a honey-do on the baseboard. Apparently was sitting up with his legs bent but out to his side. Instant death- had bad contusion on his right temple. He weighed 200lbs, stocky build. Apparent massive heart attack as had had a previous heart attack a year before. Unfortunately, I had to see him in the body bag and his knees "tented" the body bag as did his right arm as it was out to his side. I will never forget that or seeing EMTS turn him on his back and his knees bent and arm outstretched in fixed position. So he went in to full rigor, doctor guessing, time of death at noon, until I found him 6 1/2 hrs later. I wonder why.

My son passed away unexpectantly at age 27 from an aortic dissection. He had been deceased at least 20 hours before we discovered and I always wondered what it was like for his body after all life had left it.
