WHAT IF TIANA BECAME THE NEW VOODOO QUEEN OF THE BAYOU?

In this alternate universe Mama Odie passes away. After Tiana and Naveen have their royal and bayou wedding ceremonies, Tiana opens up her dream restaurant and starts her new life with Naveen. Once she opens up ‘Tiana’s Palace’ Mama Odie comes to tell her that she feels her time is coming and she would love Tiana to be her successor. Mama Odie explains why she chose Tiana as she recalls when they first met whilst Tiana was a frog. She saw so many amazing traits in Tiana that came from her father. The likeness Mama Odie made to her late father immensely touched Tiana’s heart but she was torn between the life she had started to build and accepting Mama Odie’s request.

Tiana spoke to Naveen about what she had discussed with Mama Odie. Naveen thought it was a bad idea as they had just started to build their life together but Tiana felt as though she had an obligation to the bayou because of the help the bayou’s inhabitants had given them Tiana but Naveen did not have the same care for the bayou as Tiana did. Tiana decided that she was going to accept the offer and run her restaurant at the same time even though Naveen disagreed with her choice. As months went by Tiana trained with Mama Odie whilst running her restaurant and Mama Odie passed away not long after this.

With Mama Odie’s recent death, Tiana couldn’t help but remember her kind words about her father. This made her realise that she would never be able to completely fulfil her restaurant dream without her father. Opening up Tiana’s Palace was her father’s dream before it was her dream. He wanted to call his restaurant ‘Tiana’s Place’ after his daughter and he inspired Tiana to share this dream. Tiana also started to think about what Dr Facilier had showed her when he was trying to make her a deal. She saw memories of her father working extra shifts whilst being extremely tired just to come back home with a smile on his face to make his family happy. Tiana felt a lot of pain from these memories because she never knew this side to her father and he never got to see his daughter take his recipe’s past their back porch. This is what Tiana felt was missing all this time, she had a deep desire for her father’s presence so they could live out their shared dream.

In this version of the story Dr Facilier had offered her a deal that would not only include her restaurant but would also bring her beloved father back. Whilst thinking about this deal Tiana realised that she could use her newly found voodoo powers to get in contact with the voodoo spirits who gave Dr Facilier the ability to bring her father back, but Tiana would not make the same mistake Dr Facilier did by selling her soul to them. She struck a deal with the friends on the other side that didn’t involve her soul. This deal required the full time closure of Tiana’s Palace so that she could fully dedicate herself to working with the spirits. Naveen could not support Tiana’s decision especially given what he had been through at the hands of these Voodoo spirits. Naveen didn’t understand the extreme lengths she was willing to go to in order to bring her father back to life. He felt like he had lost the woman he fell in love with and decided to return to Maldonia.

Tiana had to supply souls to the voodoo spirits as part of their deal but unlike Dr Facilier she didn’t trick people into making deals with her. Her deals were fair and she truly gave the people of New Orleans what they asked for but she had seen the selfish and immoral nature of humans throughout her life. Tiana thought back to the difficult times in her life like when she wanted to open her restaurant but the Fenner brothers told her that a woman of her background wouldn’t be able to handle that. This is why she developed a plan to always strike a deal that tested people’s morals. If they failed to fulfil their part of the deal she thought it was fair to sacrifice their immoral souls for the chance to regain her father’s sweet and loving soul.

Several years later a young girl who needs a deal arrives at Tiana’s doorstep in the bayou…

it feels like she started out with good intentions but slowly got more morally grey as the years went by
I wonder how her story would end ? Do the friends on the other side double-cross her ? Does she end up spiralling fully to the dark side to bring back her father ? Does Naveen try to fix things ? So much potential !

I find it interesting and love how with Tiana there's no trickery to her deals. Just fulfill your end of the bargain and she'll leave you alone. Which given ultimatum she gave that girl her prices aren't high. But judging by all the frogs at her place many people have tried backing out on their half of the deal.
Also like how Tiana was wise enough not to sell her own soul in the dealings with Facilier's former friends.

Charlotte NEEDS to have a significant supporting role in helping to stop Tiana in this AU. Imagine how hurtful it would be for Charlotte to watch as her childhood friend slowly spiralling into madness trying to bring back her deceased father, because the pain of losing a life so dear to you is definitely one thing Charlotte's fortune cannot help to mend.

3:36 I love how in the context this line can refer to Tiana. Tiana is closer to achieving her goal to have her father back which is what she WANTS. But in the process she’s lost her restaurant, her morality, and her husband which is what she NEEDED/HAD.

Interestingly, Voodoo Queen Tiana’s deals are more like Ursula’s than Dr. Facilier’s. The deal itself is what the the person knew they agreed to, but if they don’t keep their end of the bargain, they get transmuted into a creature.
Of course, Tiana seems much more fair than Ursula here, we don’t see her doing anything that would make it harder for the girl to complete the deal, but it’s interesting nonetheless.

As soon as I saw the frogs, I had the feeling they had something to do with the way Tiana does her deals considering how the movie itself goes. I'm not disappointed, but it still hits hard.

I also love how she works with the pot as well. Shows that connection she still has with Mama Odie as Odie's apprentice. It also fits Tiana as a chef and how her dad used one too to do his gumbo, the same one Tiana's mom gifts her at the beginning of the movie and *also* showing the connection she'll always have with him as her whole ordeal is to bring him back.

The part about the invitation is interesting. A lot of older tales had a stipulation of paying respect or thanks to the ones who helped you. Those who didn't usually found themselves cursed or some other misfortune befell them until they learned.

The last line is so good, because it also applies to Tiana herself. If she achieved her goal, she'd get what she wanted (her father to return) but she's lost what she had (a loving husband and the restaurant of her dreams). Her father would not approve of the woman his daughter had become either, so she wouldn't even have the love she cherished in her memories, that would be lost to her too.

1:36 I swear this specific line and note make me feel some typa way. It’s almost like Tiana sympathises with her. Like she sees herself in that lonely girl. We know that the canon Tiana was quite distant. She was buried in her work and didn’t have time for relationships or friendship. She had acquaintances, Lottie and her mom, but I believe she was still lonely and probably had that wish of having more closure. With her friends, family and new people. Career is important, but in the end, we are all really just in need of someone.

I love how you took the song and put your own spin on it. Love the opening where Tiana tells the girl not to worry about all the frogs hopping around everywhere. It definitely gives me a bit of an Ursula vibe with how Tiana punishes those who fail to fulfill their part of her deal, yet Tiana also holds her part of the bargain fairly and doesn't cheat her way through it to get her client's soul. It also reminds me a lot of Maleficent because the girl ended up not inviting Tiana to her wedding and got cursed for it in return. Moral: Always invite the Voodoo queen.

I genuinely don't believe there is a genre your gorgeous voice isn't suited for, honestly I've been preferring your versions of the songs over the originals even- And many people do these alternate worlds but there's something about the spin you give to these stories that still remain so faithful and grounded to the original work that I think the creator's could change the original stories to these alternate universe concepts and it would still make perfect sense without missing a beat. Beautiful work truly, I don't even know how you upload these so fast but amazing effort from you and your team and thank you so much for your hard work.
