TIANA'S VILLAIN SONG | Animatic | Almost there | By Lydia the Bard

The series RETURNS! This one has been requested SO many times so it was truly only a matter of time before we got to work on it! Tiana will be the first of three new villains in December and I am so excited to finally get to show you what we've been working on!

BIGGEST thank you to the GORGEOUS @TajFaerie for agreeing to voice Tiana in this song! When I first thought about making this song I could literally hear no one else singing her part and you are such a talent! Thank you for singing with me! Thank you also to the musical genius that is Ben Tomalin, you always blow me away with your arrangements! and to @sarahsworks for the GORGEOUS animatic, your art style is out of this world!

✨ TIANA'S VILLAIN STORY ✨

In this story, we follow the events of the film ‘Princess and the Frog’ as they usually play out. Tiana begins the film working hard and finally getting to the point where her dream is a reality with her restaurant finally in her grasp, only for it to be ripped away from her moments later, leaving her back at square one. She attends a party at her friend Charlottes where she wishes on a star and kisses a frog and goes on an adventure with her new friends.

We get to the ending act of the film, and this is where everything changes. Tiana is offered a deal with the shadowman, return his talisman and he’ll grant her everything she ever wanted. She’ll have her restaurant, the dream her father passed down would finally become a reality. All she’s ever strived for would be within her grasp. At this point Tiana is at war with herself, to return the talisman would curse Naveen to a life as a frog forever, but if she didn't take it she might never achieve all she has wanted. In the original tale she refuses the deal, but this is a villain story and she hasn't worked so hard and for so long to refuse an offer that granted her all her heart's desires for a boy.

And so Tiana makes the deal.

She becomes human again and returns home to find a letter letting her know that the restaurant was hers, along with a hefty donation in compensation for any trouble caused. Tiana signs her best friend Charlotte as her business partner and together they build an empire, creating hundreds of jobs and bringing in visitors from far and wide.

Charlotte has always been a kind soul at heart, she feigns a desire for success and material wealth but truly all she wants is for her loved ones to be happy. And so when Tiana’s sights continue to rise and she begins to lose herself to her ambition, hurting those around her to get what she wants becomes a norm. And Charlotte refuses to see her best friend walk any further down that path.

But Tiana is too far gone, her ambitions have blinded her and she needs more. After all, that’s what her father wanted, he wanted her to succeed, he wanted her to build this empire, didn't he? She can’t stop now, not when she has come this far. And so when an offer is made for a new restaurant, 5 times the size of any she's had before, she jumps at the opportunity. And when she was told that making this restaurant would push dozens of families out of their homes? It doesn't even faze her. Tiana won’t stop moving forward and if people get in her way then they’re collateral.

Once you’ve made a deal with the shadowman there is no turning back, and she’s almost there.

I find it interesting that even if Tiana turn dark that Lottie doesn’t fear her really or extremely. Instead she seems to be more sad about what Tiana have become and that she is losing her. I also like how Tiana doesn’t hurt Lottie even if she disagree with her….I don’t know if I misinterpret it a little but that doesn’t change what a great animatic it is again😄

Tiana casually putting her dad’s picture away in a drawer really shows how little he really has to do with her current plans, even though she claims she’s doing it for their old dream. I’m surprised Tiana let Charlotte leave without hurting her, but I suppose there isn’t much Tiana thinks she could do to stop the business from growing at this point.

That’s probably a mistake on her part…

It’s interesting how realistic Tiana is compared to the other princesses since they are using magic for revenge, being psychologically manipulative or declaring war on everyone while Tiana… is being a ruthless businessperson and doesn’t hurt those who care for her meaning she could be redeemed unlike the rest.

I find it curious how in the end Tiana doesn't even seem happy, being a good parallel with one of the messages of the movie "wanting and needing are not the same."
Tia may have everything she wanted, but she was left without what she really needed.

I like the look Tiana has when Lottie closes the door, at first she’s smiling but then when the door fully closes she looks almost resigned, like knowing that this was her last chance to turn back and not lose the last person who loves her, but now she has no choice left but but to move further into the darkness. It gives a sense of tragedy, but the choices were always hers. The first time you compromise on your ethics, the easier it becomes to do so. And now it has left her all alone with the last person she loved leaving, with her only company being the darkness.

I voted on your poll for Luisa having a villain song, but this really good too. I hope we can hear an evil Surface Pressure cover soon. Although I’m not sure what a villain song for Tinkerbell would be, since she can’t be understood by humans.

Have you ever thought of doing a Lion King Nala villain song, the song being Shadowlands from the Broadway show? That could be interesting.

I love this version of Tiana. I can picture an offscreen breakingpoint where she never got to bid higher for her chosen place where she could open her dream restaurant because "A lil woman of your background. You're better off where you're at" and the fact that she's overworked herself but was always underminded made her seek out Facilier, who in turn made a deal that she accepted, but in return she got rid of everyone except for Lottie because she's never steered Tiana wrong and actually cared. Lottie being the sweetheart she is, wanted to save Tiana knowing this isn't her, that she's losing everything but at a large scale than before to get what she wants and the way Tiana shows Lottie the cards to persuade her that they can have a lavish life together where they are together (like they were as kids) omg chef's kiss. The animation, the voices and the way Tiana's smile drops when Lottie leaves, a small show that losing Lottie means she no longer cares that she's alone and that she's considered a monster. Ouch. The fact Tiana even let Lottie go, shows that she still cares and mattered enough in the end, Tiana valued their friendship enough not to hurt her for leaving like everyone else. Poor poor babies. They were almost there 😢😢💚

3:03 Despite everything, Tiana still loves her friend Lottie... it is sad and at the same time tender to see that despite everything, their friendship since they were children is the only thing that prevents Tiana from doing something to Lottie or her father.

I lovehow Lotties color as a kid changes into a softer looking pink when shes older, like shes gotten more softer and less greedy. While Tianas softer green changes into an almost toxic like green to show that she's gotten colder and more greedier, etc!! (Dont know if that's actually what they mean but thats what I see)

Also the way the green smoke that is around her, alost unconsciously emitting off of her, reminds me of the green smoke the shadowman emits!! Like, the only reasonshes at the point she is now is bc of black magic!

Just noticed this- at 2:14 snakes wrap around Lottie- so does Tiana use black magic now then??

I do like how Lottie seems to have matured in this song.

She felt for her childhood friend. She tried to get through to her.

While canon Lottie would have tried to get to her as well. This Lottie, has a sense of maturity.

I like that. I like that she shows concern for her childhood friend, rather than leaving her in the dust, while she chases after any good looking man she sees.

Lottie shows a sense of duty, to her childhood friend.

I think the scariest part is that Tiana absolutely would be a lot smarter about using the "Friends on the other side" than Dr. Facilier.
