It can also just mean being led or impressed to pray by the Spirit, in terms of praying what the Lord is laying on your heart to pray not what you think to pray. It can mean, yes, to pray in tongues, but it can also be praying by the authority of the Spirit.

There’s no such a thing as pray in the spirit! Praying is asking our Lord for things. You can do that anytime and anywhere. What you do in the Spirit is to worship God our heavenly Father, his Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Worshipping comes from your heart, allowing all of your senses to focus on him and his divine loving presence.
