Arming Serbia Is Dangerous for Europe, Says Kosovo FM

Kosovo’s relations with Serbia remain tense, and the normalisation talks facilitated by the EU have failed to make progress. Just recently, Pristina announced plans to open the bridge on the Ibar River, which divides Mitrovica - a city at the border with Serbia, into a Serb-dominated north and an ethnic Albanian south.

Across the Balkans, sat down with Kosovo’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz and asked her about the current situation in her country.

Serbia's neighbours do not fear Serbia for the simple reason that there is nothing to fear. Serbia has no designs to take over sovereign territories that do not belong to them. The Kosovans, on the other hand, have expansionist territorial ambitions. North Macedonia is their target and the EU member states are far more concerned with the potential instability of the Balkan region whilst the the dream of a pan Albanian state structure remains. Serbia has a moral duty to protect it's people from antagonistic, very unfriendly separatist regimes. In Kosovo and Metohija Orthodox Serbs have been subjected to every political and militia terror tactic in the book to force them to leave their ancestral lands. That is not something new. It has been going on for the past 40 years and the Kosovan leaders are hell bent to continue with their program of total assimilation of the Serbs, akin to the treatment of the Kurds by their Turkish allies. As for the Kosovan Foreign Minister (clearly a victim of shoddy research and understanding on contemporary, and past, developments in Eastern Europe), she fails to read the message that the EU recognise who are the primary factor for stability in the Balkans. It is not, as the poor lady would argue, appeasement of Serbia and the unpopular President Vučić. On the contrary, it is practical political wisdom to defuse the real potential of another war in Kosovo and Metohija which the Albanian Kosovans have prepared for and indeed want.
