This is a contemporaneous documentary discussing the development and launch of Windows Vista. I have not come across it online to date, so I have chosen to upload it. Obviously the content is not my own in this case - it belongs to the BBC and is copyright 2006. It is provided here only for archival purposes. I hope the footage will give those who were not around - or simply not aware - at the time, some insight into public awareness and opinions on "Microsoft's New Vista" and all that was involved in a traditional Microsoft Windows launch event. It's great that Microsoft tried to get people to using Vista. But the problem was when people tried to upgrade to it (if they could, ) that it didn't look as it did on same newer computer and backwards compatibility was not 100% there from the start. The reason it didn't look the same was do to the computers that a lot of people didn't have the hardware to run Vista's Aero Interfaces. So they were getting the Basic Interfere instead and that upset a lot of people (like Business Owners.) So with that said, a lot of place (like a high school I went to) downgraded their preinstalled Vista Computers to Xp. So, Xp for a lot of places did everything that they wanted it to do and those placed know that they were not going to lose the backwards compatibility that they needed.

Duplicate entry from another video I just watched. I knew the man (we all called him Tam) who had the responsibility of giving the order to release Windows Vista home. The last time I saw him, before he retired from Microsoft and a few years later died from complications of diabetes, I was setting up webcasting for a meeting (nothing to do with Microsoft, was for a volunteer organization he and I were involved with) he walked in the room... looked at me and said "I don't want to talk about Vista." He new Vista was not ready, but he had been forced to make the announcement because the release was so far behind schedule. I thought Vista was a good operating system but it was not backwards compatible with any of my primary applications I used to do my work.
