Windows Vista was actually good

Windows Vista is usually hated for many reasons but I think it deserves at least some respect for implementing a lot of things we take for granted today! #windows #vista #surfshark

It was actually really resource intensive for the underdeveloped hardware that most computers had at the time.

I wish I hadn't broken my Toshiba Satellite L505... I would still be using Vista if it hadn't broken. Now, I use Windows 7 on a Dell Optiplex 3020 from 2013.

I used this thing for 3 years (2008 to 2011), and I missed every single second of it. It was so good.

Vista is bad itself, but it gave birth to good versions, especially Windows 7

Vista was a classic case of design-on-the-fly syndrome. Before the major 2004 development reset, you had one early build within the IE department, another within the media department, etc. and none of the design teams had ever talked to each other enough to make it what it was originally supposed to be. As a result, many of the features that were originally intended to make it were scrapped, while the UX team's goals were what won out.

My C++ professor last semester always taught us about why coming up with an initial design first before even starting on the development, using flowcharts, pseudocode, and the like, is always important. Vista is what happens when you fail to follow this advice and jump into the development without first setting a design goal. It was still redeemable *if* you had the hardware necessary to properly run it, sure, and in that case it looked and felt fantastic, but to say that 2006 was a disastrous year for Windows as a result of this failure to properly design things would constitute a dramatic understatement.

Pretty sure Windows XP comes with automatic updates as recent as 2014. The MS update catalog website is for those users who wish to manually download and install selected updates. Handy when dial up internet was slow or unreliable. Drivers though on XP and Vista were a whole new affair! Also, for some reason XP SP3 slowed my Celeron to a crawl however last Vista updates were smoother!

Vista blew my mind when I saw it for the first time in 2008. Got a laptop with Vista pre-installed later that year and I kinda like it. It was so beautiful. The hate it gets was because the requirements are a big jump from XP, a lot of computers at the time couldn't run it without lag or bluescreens. It's actually a stable OS like Windows 7 if you install SP2 or SP3.

Vista was amazing, I don't remember having a single issue and 100% preferred it over XP. I wish I used it longer than I did but I think I did since 7 is technically just Vista on steroids.

UAC was introduced in Windows Vista (NT 6.0, Win7 is NT 6.1).
