In this video we look at 5 popular tourniquets (plus one relatively new brand) and compare pros and cons of each style. No matter which you prefer, they all work and could potentially save your life if you have severe cut or wound on an arm or leg. I think everyone should make a tourniquet part of their EDC gear, so maybe this video wil help yopu decide which one is best for you.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned it or not but your Health Savings Account (HSA) is able to be used for first aid kits and tourniquets. We were able to make trauma kits using those funds. Just thought I'd FYI folks.

Good stuff as always Brian. I have a similar story about my son. I was at home with him when he was about 6 yo. He was eating a larger gummy-style candy. All of a sudden he comes around the corner of the kitchen towards my office desk and he was holding his throat and couldn't breathe. I knew immediately what was going on and did the Heimlich maneuver and out popped this candy. Getting some basic training and some basic equipment can save your life or a loved one.

Bryan I really want you to know that this was one of the best videos you have ever put out. I've carried tourniquets for years and thank God never had to use them. Its such an important piece of life saving equipment and so important that people know how to use them so thanks for raising awareness on your channel. Its been a while since I've put one on myself so I'm going to go and do just that. Keep up the good work.

SWAT one is handy for having packed into a small EDC medical kit, it packs very flat and is easy to carry. For a larger medical kit I would have the CAT and also throw in some israeli bandages.
Thanks for your channel, great work sir

I carry my TQs inside my third mask. That way it’s readily accessible right there on my face. Kidding. Great video and great assessment. And as you note, beware the cheap knockoff CAT TQs... a few of my friends and I pooled some cash and picked up RAT TQs for all of our local law enforcement officers. RAT was kind enough to give us wholesale pricing on them and we were able to supply TQs for 65 officers. We opted for RAT due to the size, cost, and the ability to handle the smaller limbs of children and K9 officers.

Thanks Brian for the Video. I am currently quite into the topic of Tourniquets and I was acutally thinking about the SWAT Tourniquet to apply to thin limbs of kids e.g.

Thanks for the demo, Brian. I spent many years in the Army certified as a Combat Lifesaver. I'll stick with the TCCC recommended tourniquets. A purpose built tool will always do better than a big rubber band. I carry SOFTT-W and CAT-7.

I'm glad your son survived, what a sobering thought! Such a simple act of knocking on a window. Life is precious!

I sent a person who knows tactical medicine that Cambridge study and if he says it was garbage i believe him. It didn't cover arterial only veinous stoppage. The TK tq you mentioned isn't the tk4, it's simular but has a plastic screw hook device to tighten the strap. Also, the tk4 is a "compression strap" now. New packaging should no longer says tourniquet on it. Rats is only good for compression as is swat-t. Saying "just as good as" a real tccc approved tqs is just wrong to say.
