I just want to point out that the RATS Tourniquet "loop" isn't what you use to slide over a limb. It is used like a loop and hitch to apply tension. You slide the loose end through the loop and wrap around the limb to apply tension. It may not have been your intent but, when you are showing the RATS in the video it makes it look like you slide the pre-made loop over the limb.

Skinny Medic gives a good overview here:

Cache's Added 2 Cents:

Gear coming from so called, 'related fields' often needs to be adapted to our field of survival. I carry different tourniquets depending on my role or mission, but one particularly well suited to survival use is the SWAT-TQ.

Rationale:
1. Multi-use - For survival, adaptability is the name of the game and being able to re-purpose a TQ as a slingshot, sling spear or engine for an otter board are things you cannot do with other TQ's ... perhaps the RAT to a slightly lesser degree, but the RAT also has it's place. I strongly agree that having different types of TQ's enables to treat a wider range of injuries and also gives the survivalist more options in re-purposing a TQ for other things should you decide you are more likely to die from something else other than blood loss, have redundant TQ's or have something else that would also serve as a TQ in a pinch.
2. Personnel Makeup - As you pointed out in the video on the Vegas tragedy, it is important that your TQ works on your son who is a small child. As a survivalist, your group makeup is different from that of a military unit. The SWAT also works on all ages and on many animal. It is also easy to slice into thinner strips if needed.
3. Placement - As you also mentioned, I also carry more than one type of TQ, giving me more options. I carry a CAT in my IFAK, but I carry a SWAT for EDC, and others in other modules. One reason is that the SWAT can be placed higher in the armpit or groin than my CAT.
4. Form Factor - You also talked in the Vegas video about your EDC TQ and lamented the fact that most Trauma Kits don't fit in blue jeans so you had to make your own. That is a classic survivalist adaptation. The SWAT comes flat packed and flat objects carry more comfortably ... same with flat packed 90 MPH tape. This consideration should not be considered to lightly for the survivalist because a TQ is of no use if you left it home in your sock drawer.

I'm not saying the SWAT is the "ultimate TQ" ... I doubt there is any such thing. Different TQ's are better at different things. For instance, IMO, the SWAT is not the easiest to apply to yourself one-handed. I carry it for EDC. Dr David Pruett (USN ER DOC) and owner of AMP-3 recommends it. It is certainly not the most high-speed, but I mention it for the listed reasons.

RATs is not my favorite, but I can agree that it does have some value in certain situations.
