For me, that does a box select. Scrolling is middle mouse button.

Extra note, some times getting out of a node group that does have many node groups inside it can be really hard using tab, so the better way to exit a node group is ctrl+tab

level 4: add the shortcut `O`. this connects geometry to the output of the current group (as appsed to ctrl + alt + RMB, which connect it to the most outter output).

you missed alt while moving a node over a noodle prevents it from auto connecting.
