I'm taiwanese, and actually my grandma used to cook very simple fried rice with egg, ketchup, and a pinch of salt. It's my childhood memory and it's good!!!(as long as you don't put too much ketchup that the fried rice becomes wet).

Edit:let me reiterate, I mean using ketchup to cover up flavor. There is nothing inherently wrong about ketchup, it is a food, the thing is that when and how you use it. Condiments should increase the taste of a meal, instead of overpowering the flavors in a meal, then again, it’s just my opinion, I am by no means a professional cook so tweaks to their own

Actually, Ketchup in firid rice is often done in home cooking in Asia. The steak however, is not usually found in fried rice.
