I did this in my hardcore world and completely rebuilt the end island at spawn with a ship so the dragon would feel at home

Note: if you do not immediately jump through the portal after it perched after flying back and it starts flying aimlessly in circles just fly up above it and deal some damage that will make it fly back to perch again then jump through the portal and relog
