Floating/Skipping/Jumping a title is illegal in all 50 States. It is a felony in at least some. It is very dangerous for both the seller and buyer, even outside of being illegal.

If you’re selling a car. Take your plates and fill out online form to dmv as soon as you sell the car so it shows you’re not the owner anymore.

No floating titles in states like PA. The transfer is pretty much forced upon sale with a notary

99% of the people that go buy the car only care if title is clean.... So floating is not really an issue and if it is for the buyer then just sell it to the next

In North Carolina and most other states. They do not use the purchase price to determine sales tax. For the very reason stated in this video. Sales tax is based on the value of the vehicle. What price you paid is totally irrelevant.

I would say that most YouTube car flippers leave the title open. Meaning they never transfer the title in their name. Which leads me to believe they don't pay taxes properly.

Great video i just had a couple of questions
1. if you have a dealers license and want to flip a car, when purchasing the car can you drive it home if the seller has taken off the plates and do they usually take off the plates?
2 . If your a dealer are you allowed to drive the car home without insuring the car cuz why would i insure the car if i just want to take it from point a to point b and then flip it
3. also just to be clear, if your a dealer you don’t need to register the car

In Texas they go by a SPV, so you can buy a car for $1000 but the SPV is $1400 they would tax you by that number, it sucks

So if you do a release of liability and it goes to the DMV, then you float a title, the DMV would know that you owned the car and didn’t put it in your name. I’m a little confused on how that would work

So if your floating the title and your name isn’t on the title is it fine to put your name on the bill of sale or does the name on the title have to be the same as the one on title

I started researching cars that are on auction in my state but had an issue. For some reason every car I searched said "unable to be registered in my state." The car I looked at were all clean titles. Does this mean I'm unable to buy them and resell them in my state? Any way around this issue? Thanks!
