Artemis I launch

The Space Launch System (SLS) rocket with the Orion spacecraft aboard lifted off at 07:47 CET from @NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA on 16 November 2022.

The most powerful rocket ever built sent NASA’s Orion spacecraft and ESA’s European Service Module (ESM) to a journey beyond the Moon and back. No crew will be on board Orion this time, and the spacecraft will be controlled by teams on Earth.

ESM provides for all astronauts’ basic needs, such as water, oxygen, nitrogen, temperature control, power and propulsion.

Much like a train engine pulls passenger carriages and supplies power, the European Service Module will take the Orion capsule to its destination and back.

This thing absolutely *LIT UP* the dark night sky with a *BRIGHT ORANGE* color, even from where I live in central Florida (about an hour's drive west of the launch complex).
Personally, I've never seen anything like it, and although I expected it to be an exceedingly exciting launch (whenever we might've gotten around to it lol), I didn't anticipate how _emotional and awe-inspiring_ it would feel seeing a new generation of Moon missions begin, this time within my lifetime.

Seriously, congratulations to everyone who worked on any aspect of making that all happen, whether big or small. You deserve an enormous amount of praise for your ongoing Artemis accomplishments, and I can't wait to follow along every step of the way with this mission and beyond 🤜🤛😎🌛

This is true space exploration for mankind. Not private, not commercial, but public for everyone to enjoy and be excited for. GO NASA!

Those SRBs don’t mess around. They light and that thing is GONE.

Compare that to the Saturn V which seemed to take forever just to clear the tower.

Once again humanity stretches it's tiny, fragile hand towards the infinite unknown.
(Should've happened 45 years ago but, eh.. I'll take what I can get.)
Fantastic start.
Best of luck on the journey yet to go.

It's going to be a very long time before watching this launch gets old.
