google maps: turn right
apple maps: turn right
waze: 500 ft ahead there is a car stopped on the shoulder. 50 ft ahead there is a stray cat giving birth on the sidewalk. It is beautiful. 10 ft ahead there is a young boy filled with the
hope of one day finding his father

“Speed camera reported ahead” best Waze feature hands down.

You missed the biggest advantage of Waze. Thousands of dedicated volunteer map editors who live in the community they edit. The map is far more accurate plus road closures are posted and removed faster than Google (even though Google leaches the data with some lag). Recently in Northern Virginia the I-66 express lanes were opened and Waze was using it for routing the day it opened. The other nav apps took weeks to pick up the changes. If you're using an app for commuting in some urban hell hole then Waze is it, hands down.

On a Texas interstate a year or so ago, Waze instructed us to exit the main lanes and to follow a circuitous route through a small town, then reconnect with the main highway. At first, we were puzzled, but discovered later there was a major slowdown on the interstate (which we could not see when Waze sent us on the detour) and the alternate route moved us faster than if we had stayed on the highway. Kudos to Waze!

Apparently, Waze also learns your driving habits and style. Meaning Waze would recommend you the road you would normally go through daily, rather than recommend you new roads all the time. Heck, even gives ETA based on my previous average driving speed, which is actually different between drivers 😉

For me, only problem with Waze is the stop planner, you can only add 1 stop and a final destination, whilst google maps can plan a route with multiple stops which can be shared with your friends. This is especially relevant for my group because we go on long drives with multiple stops in which waze is just not a viable option. Everything else - amazing.

Waze for road-trip and Google for navigating to an unknown destination. Also, Waze allows for alerts without a destination making it more useful to leave open even when not navigating.

My biggest reason for using Waze is the pothole warnings, speed limit exceeded warning, speed limit display and current speed display.
Currently (in South Africa at least) these features aren’t available in Google Maps or Apple Maps.

Unfortunately where I am in Northern Ireland Waze used to be fantastic. When the user base dropped off here and the user reporting became less frequent it just made more sense to go back to Google which has much more up to date traffic data and road closures. Shame, I loved using Waze.

I think that Google would be well advised to keep the two product separate, while still "poaching" features like learning the driver's preferred route and typical speeds, and sharing map corrections and incident reports. Waze should stay "gamified", and social-oriented, while Maps should be more "straight-laced". Essentially, who rather different interfaces to the same information base and routing engine.

I think the biggest difference with maps is the navigation system itself. You can assimilate this with ants. When an ant moves forward, it leaves behind a trail of pheromones, which are detected by other ants. Over time, the passage that is the most marked will be the one that is the most used. Waze uses this system by placing a minus sign on the map when braking, and a plus sign when accelerating. This system gives you instant access to all traffic data (including traffic alerts), so you can choose the most optimized route. It's very effective in towns and cities, where roads and paths cross a lot, and I find that other gps systems are much less effective..

I joined Waze 13 years ago and I have 98, 303 pts. I actually was a map contributor for my local city back in the beginning.

What I love about Waze is the routes and options of routes compared to Google and Apple which give you more of a direct route whereas Waze will give you the fastest route using side/back streets and traffic data

It's very simple how the two apps live in harmony together (and why Google will keep it that way). Waze is the navigation to get you there (or at least, to the parking bay). Whereas Google Maps is to find the precise location of your destination (you'd might use Street View to get an idea of what you're looking for)

I just hope Google won't ruin Waze. It's my to go navigation and in my country it's actually used so much that while waiting at traffic lights I easily get a report about an accident behind the intersection that happened a minute earlier.

I like Waze. I like how it displays in on my car screen. Waze warns of radar traps, speed cameras, red light cameras, and various aspects of on the roads. I like how I can customize Waze.

Every so often I try to compare all 3 and so far Waze is better for getting around traffic issues, and well as notifying me of things I may encounter on the road. Google Maps is suppose to get data from Waze but in my experience is not always the case, at least not as fast.

When I was studying at UK, Google map is the best navi app for me. But back in my home country of Malaysia, everyone I know including myself are using Waze. I have tried to continue using google map when I first returned, but quickly I changed back to Waze. For Malaysia, Waze is just a lot more accurate. It knows Malaysian roads and tolls and highways. It is just perfect. And for a developing country like Malaysia, everyone drives. I feel like Waze is just made for driving users. While for google, it is damn accurate when it comes to public transportation and walking. Which isn’t that popular in Malaysia.

For anyone who don’t want to waste their time on clickbait:
No. Waze isn’t dying. He never mentions Waze dying or anything like said in the title.

Waze rerouted me automatically to avoid a car crash further down the road that happened while I was driving. The other two maps won’t do that.
