I tried OsmAnd and was underwhelmed at best. The maps seem to be years out of date. I used Waze for years but now...Since most of us have cell phones, I think they can track us anyway if they really want to

Some open source options are very user friendly. OsmAnd isn't one of those. If you use a map/navigation app without an identity associated with it, you're fine. The data they collect can't be traced to anyone. Just don't sign in to Waze.
If you're concerned that you'll need a map when you have no internet, then OsmAnd is a good choice, or a paper map.

Another informative video from the Naomi twins. I never even heard of waze, but I would only disagree with you on Apple and their location apps. Also enjoyed the different clothing arrangements between the 2 Naomi’s, sisters, clones, it doesn’t matter.
