💯 I think these programs really need to to emphasize the importance of taking enough time to implement new concepts as most people with chronic illness are in a state of fight/flight and have the tendency to rush through then blame the program because they are overwhelmed.
The brain retraining and tools are not the issue.

One thing these programmes don't really account for, which IMO is naive, is that the thinking patterns & life circumstances that got people ill will take over recovery too. Programmes are often designed by people who got better fairly quickly from a nervous system issue without complexity in their life and they presume a fairly linear recovery for others too. In reality people have complex trauma, gut issues, family issues, abusive partners and many programmes don't account for this individuality of circumstances. They give the message "if it's not working, there's something you're not doing" rather than there's something we didn't account for when we gave you recovery messages.

They don't teach enough about the experience of trying to inact the programme itself which if someone isn't ready can entrench self-loathing.

It's like when morons tell depressed people to exercise to overcome depression and don't take into account the average person who is moderately to severely depressed can't exercise because they are so fatigued. Exercise helps people who are mildly to moderately depressed who are able to do it. Blanket advice to exercise when depressed doesn't take into account the reality of an illness, much like these CFS recovery programmes don't.

It’s hard to not do it from a state of fear and urgency when that why your doing it in the first place. If your brain is on fire, 🔥 no one is going slow down to think, wow I might need to slow down and lay attention. I understand what you’re trying to get across. But I think the better point would be, once you have gotten out of your Flight flight freeze phase. Pls go back and start over!! Really fake in the program and learn the rules, and the whys.
