Food tech student here, oat milk is not a "starch juice" anymore, it's basically "sugar juice". The reason why oat milk tastes so good is because manufacturers would use enzymes to break down the starch molecules into simpler sugars, making the product sweeter and more palatable. If you do not believe me, try making oat milk yourself with fresh oats and compare it with oat milks you find on the grocery stores - big difference in flavor.

*[EDIT UPDATE - 13 June 2024]*
This comment thread has been getting a lot of attention and it seems like there is still debate on whether "homemade oat milk" is better than "factory-made oat milk" - in a nutshell, they each have their pros and cons. What I have previously elaborated on is purely from a sensorial aspect (flavor), so flavor is king in factory-made ones. Factory-made is also king when it comes to price, convenience, and shelf life, since food products must undergo preserving methods such as sterilization or using additives. But on the downside, you'd have a very high content of sugar and since it's factory-made you have no control over that. Homemade is king in terms of controlling what goes into your body - how much oats, how much sugar content, etc. It's also nutritionally better since, although it is possible to fortify factory-made oat milk with vitamins and minerals, some functional compounds can only be found in minimally processed oats. I can elaborate so much more, but you guys get the point.

I drink oatmilk daily but only a little in my coffee. Just because I like the taste. I don’t need another reason. And I think sometimes it’s nice to eat or drink something just because it tastes good.

As a diabetic, whole milk will spike my blood sugar faster than any milk alternatives. And since switching to oatmilk for my coffee my blood sugar is much lower. Soy and nut milks also seem to spike blood sugar for me.

I’d recommend reading T Colin Campbell’s book The Low carb Fraud. Filled with actual scientific explanation. Carbs are not just sugars and what is often left out is the function of Fiber regulating glucose spikes.

Tip I recently saw on my national TV (Austria):
Sweet Lupine "Milk"
The Lupine has a garden variant that is toxic and one of agrarian nature which is extremely rich on protein. (even more than soy) and pretty darn old, recently rediscovered for it's forgotten properties.
It is hardy and requires pretty much no fertilizing, softens the soil for later plants due to its roots digging straight down and additionally even fertilizes the ground instead by distributing CO2 into the soil, which other plants need.
So it has a AAA+ functionality for farmers.
For dietry it is exceptionally versitile too, as it can be eaten similar to bulgur or rice. It can be made into dairy substitutes or meat substitutes, since it's protein chains are completely taste neutral. (no planty taste) You can flake it for breakfast cereals, even have it as a coffee alternative.
(and it blooms cute) Check it out! :3

If you're lactose intolerant and have a nut allergy then I think oat milk (and maybe soy or rice milk) are the only alternatives left.

love how she doesn’t mention dairy sensitivity at all like that’s not a big reason ppl are using milk alternatives.

I always assumed it was just a lactose issue. Oat milk imo is definitely the best tasting alternative milk

Almond milk unsweetened is good enough. I use for protein shakes with zero carb

Correct me if I'm wrong, but both cowsmilk and oatmilk contain some amount of carbohydrate, there's lactose in cowsmilk and starch in oatmilk which are both bigger molecules that contain (at least partly) multiple glucose molecules, but have to be metabolized in order to set free the glucose, so to say that oatmilk contains a lot of glucose and cowsmilk doesn't seems a bit misleading to me.
Another aspect to consider is the impact on the environment which ist the lowest for oatmilk, so maybe you can find a good compromise for yourself regarding taste, nutriens and sustainability.

Oat milk also contains chlormaquat. A pesticide used to stop oat from growing to a certain height. It's linked to infertility, birth defects. Everything that has oats in it has chlormaquat. Oatmeal, cereal.

Thank you for this timely info for a lactose intolerant like me 🥛🥛🥛

Oats are high in resistant starch, a soluble fiber, that isn’t broken down by your body but feeds the gut micro biome. It’s quite good for you.

Nahh. This is just her personal preferences. Eat and drink what you like folks but with moderation.

Unfortunately, the only thing she forgot to mention is that unless you are making your own "milk", most of the alternative oats and nut milks at the store are full of chemicals. Just look at the label and you will see that you are not getting just water and oats, or water and almonds.

Moral of the story drink whatever you want in moderation like all things

I'm sorry, but I have to call partial bullshit.

Cows milk is not mostly protein and fat. Cows milk is around 4.6% lactose plus a few percentage points of other sugars, while only around 3.5% protein on average.
