The cigarette in his hand is the funniest little detail to me that always stands out. What a classic.

A few years ago I visited some friends in Chicago for a weekend and we went to the cemetery where Belushi’s parents are buried. There’s a small cenotaph on their family’s headstone to him — he’s actually buried on Martha’s Vineyard, at his request. Took us a while to find the headstone in a cold rain but when we did I left a small bag of chocolate donuts there as a tribute. (I’m sure the local mice and squirrels feasted on them but I thought it was a proper tribute.)

Belushi rules! He was a star athlete in high school (Wheaton, Il). He often incorporated his agility into his comedy and as a big man, he couldn't be touched. Great stuff! Ty. 😎👍

This sketch is one of my all-time favorites. In recent years I’ve shown it to my 1990’s children as adults. They like it, too. They also appreciate that the spoofed athletic performance was that of decathlon champion Bruce Jenner at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal.

FACT: John was the Captain of the undefeated Wheaton Central High School football team. He was also King of the Prom. And his fellow seniors voted him Most Likely to Succeed. All the athletic flips down the aisle in the Blues Brothers church scene with James Brown are John, not a double.
