This is an excellent book. It was invaluable to me in preparing for my real and complex analysis qualifying exams, and I am especially fond of the exercises in that book. There are so many, and many of them are quite challenging.

There's a really interesting video of a talk by Rudin about the origins of set theory (available on YouTube). It goes through a lot of math history starting with the basics of Fourier series and ending with a really surprising connection between Fourier series and number theory. Although his writing style isn't my favorite, he's a fun and engaging speaker.

At McGill in 1983, it was used in 3rd year Real Analysis II (MATH-372). Brutal class.

Once there was a thief that took a complex analysis book. He was dissappointed that the contents were mostly imaginary.

You know the author of of the dover book 'Essential calculus with applications' Richard Silverman wrote another calculus book named 'Modern Calculus and Analytic Geometry' (also a dover book). It is said to be proof based and just as rigorous as Spivak, but unlike spivak it covers analytic geometry and more topics (almost 1200 pages)You should check it out!
Also Daniel Vellerman author of 'How to Prove It' wrote a calculus book 'Calculus: A Rigorous First Course' which is rigorous but also readable. It also seems to be a dover book. Both have solutions and answers to the odd numbers excersises. Since they are dover books, the books should be pretty cheap.

Would Apostol's Mathematical Analysis be a good book to prepare for this one?

Having looked at both Real and Complex Analysis, I don't understand why either of these subjects need to be as difficult as they are. I am just wondering whether or not these subjects could have been made easier to understand.

I came across nice copies of Baby and Papa Rudin in an estate sale. Where do you sell things like these?

Nice classic book! But everyone has a different taste! For real analysis I prefer, "Introduction to Real analysis" By Robert G. Battle & Donald R. Sherbert" This is a piece of Art! 😊
