The British actually didn't take canadians seriously, they thought that Canadian troops were good for nothing and wanted to divide canadian troops among British Regiments. Canada proved them wrong at the battle of Vimy Ridge.

You forgot to say that until the Canadians came Vimy Ridge none of the entente forces could capture the ridge.

When you realize that Canada was probably one of the most brutal countries in the war.

We know about the Canadians here in Australia. They fought an intelligent war against the Germans. They had great leadership and they were very focused on how to achieve victory in the most efficient ways possible. They repeated it again in WW2 and in Korea...and then again in Afghanistan. Very innovative and extremely brave. Excellent soldiers.

Don't forget the Canadian army (or militia at the time officially) was the first in the world to have a motorized battalion! In September 1914 we had a battalion of 10 armoured motor cars with machine guns on them formed into the worlds first fully motorized unit in military history! I even saw one of the armoured motor cars at the Canadian war museum!

The Canadian victory over Vimy Ridge was so important that France technically gave that land to Canada after the war. If you are Canadian and speak fluent French, you can apply for special jobs and apply to universities and colleges in Vimy with almost no cost. I had a couple of friends do that a couple of years ago and they still live there in Vimy as Canadians.
