You can grind flax seeds and use 1 TBS of ground flaxseeds to 3 TBS water for egg replacement in recipes if you do not have access to eggs and need a substitute.

Another plug for raw honey here. One day my twin nieces both had sore throats. One of them started making what she called honey tea, which was just some warm water with honey mixed in. She had it several times throughout the day. She kept offering it to her sister, who said no every time. The next day they were taken to the doctor to be tested for strep. The one who turned her nose up at the "honey tea" was positive for strep, while the one who drank it several times the day before did not have strep. They shared a room with the head of their beds right next to each other and did everything together. Literally the only difference was the honey in warm water. Raw honey is AMAZING!

Manuka is honey made by bees that feed on melaleuca tree pollen. We all know how wonderful tea tree products are! And yes it is pricey!!

My mom gave my brother and me cod liver oil year round (late 40’s/early 50’s) to prevent rickets. We lived in North Dakota where there’s little sun available in the winter for vitamin D source. One year we all got polio, and my brother and I had only minor symptoms, my mother was really sick but recovered. But my dad had really bad symptoms, including paralysis. He had to be hospitalized for months, and gradually recovered, but was never as strong as he was before. Now with new information about vitamin D, I believe that the cod liver oil may have mitigated my brother’s and my symptoms of polio. 🙏

I love that you chose superfoods to share today! I'm a plant-based eater, so knowing that these are the staples that are good for stocking in a pepper pantry is very helpful! Thank you!🥰

One thing that I would like to point out about ghee and coconut oil is that they need to be kept clean. Use only a clean spoon to measure it out. Don't dip some out, use the spoon to stir something, then dip the same spoon back in. This introduces contaminants that will ruin your ghee or coconut oil. I made ghee that someone else used and used a dirty spoon. I ended up having to throw out half a pint of ghee because it grew black mold. If you want it to last, keep it clean.

You've given some great tips for being prepared for any type of emergency. And you've done so in a non-panic-inciting way - thank you for that! I've been a stocker from way back. We're a retired military family who was stationed overseas at a geographically separated area far away from an American commissary. I learned then to stock up. Since retiring and returning to the US, keeping stocked cupboards of food and other supplies has carried us through job loss and illness several times. I've also learned to be creative in where to shop. Living overseas for several years introduced us to other brands and foods available only outside the US that we've grown to love. I've been fortunate to be able to locate those imported goods as well as American goods at places such as Ross, TJ Maxx, Home Goods, and Marshall's - often for less than in our regular grocery stores. I also frequent our area discount grocery stores.

Make your own drink from dried hibiscus flowers (agua de Jamaica). You can get hibiscus at any Mexican or international supermarket. A few flowers will make plenty of agua de Jamaica and you can reuse the flowers 2 or 3 times if they are strong. They are also edible and once they have been used up for agua de Jamaica, you can make taco filling out of them.

I am so glad that you found the mushrooms at Costco. I recently was in touch with the company (in France), to ask about extending the shelf life of these mushrooms. Specifically, I wanted to know if they dried their mushrooms to less than 10% moisture. They got back with me and said putting them in mylar or glass jar with O2 absorber would be safe. I am very impressed with the types of mushrooms they use, the way they dry them AND their customer service. Hope you enjoy them. ❤️

I used to buy ghee, and it always went rancid fast. Then I learned to make my own. It tastes so much better and stays fresh longer. It’s also great for frying because it doesn’t splatter like other fats

I’ve kept opened coconut oil for 2.5 yrs, in a stable temperature less than 65 degrees without any changes. My summers in Missouri will melt it. I put it into the fridge for summer. I’ve kept sealed coconut oil for over four years (in a stable temperature). Thanks for the list!

When you mentioned using apple cider vinegar in a beverage, I immediately thought of Little House on the Prairie cookbook. Ma used to make Ginger Water for Pa when he was working outside during the summer. Probably much healthier for replacing electrolytes than some of these processed beverages folks drink today.
