I had a prostate mri about a month and a half ago. I had 3 lesions showing about a 3 on a scale of 1-5. Two days ago I had a prostate biopsy done. I will find out next week the results. To all men….don’t mess around with this. Don’t wait. Stay on top of your health. Stay on top of your prostate unless you want to wear diapers or have a catheter inserted.

Scored a 8.9 on PSA test which is double the norm of 4. MRI done this week showed 2 on the PI-RAD scale which is Low (clinically significant cancer is unlikely to be present). I've to go back in 3 months but thank God for the MRI machine as the alternatives were uncomfortable.

Just had an MRI 10-18-23 it was the most relaxing thing i ever done they placed earphones on playing country music and placed a warm blanket over me that felt great the machine made loud bumbing noises but it almost put me to sleep. My Urologist said the results came back good no spots or suspicious places on my prostate but i have already had a biopsy and two core samples came back positive the results were Gleason score of 6 psa was 4.9 really thinking about having prostate removed Urologist sent the samples off to look at it on the molecular scale and he said it came back as a very very low grade cancer but it still causes me a great deal of worrying so I think I will have my prostate taken out and be done with it.

First attempt on MRI failed as I panicked. 2nd time a success. Bigger machine, wider tube that was lit inside, earphones playing a radio station and head was just outside of machine. The noises machine made were loud but calming. Managed to lay here completely relaxed and 'sort of remained on the borderlines of awake/asleep. Was aware of what was going on, could see front of machine, and the ceiling and lights in the room. I think I also drifted into a dream as towards end of MRI thought I'd been outside walking around near a road. Biopsy followed few days later and didn't find it as painful as I thought it might have been. The biopsy gun occasionally gave me a bit of a sensitive jolt feeling. The pricks of the needles giving me the local anasthetic were ones I noticed the most but otherwise fairly OK with it. I was put into a similar position to a woman who is giving birth. Also nurses would talk to me and try to distract me and hold my hand or arm gently. Believe it or not, my small amount of fear or worry when in the biopsy room was the thought of being still for a period of time.

Because the MRI has difficulty detecting smaller cancer spots, many urologists really push a biopsy even if the MRI is ‘negative’ for prostate cancer. (Others have suggested the ones missed by an MRI are not particularly significant)

Which is strange because the Radiologist (MD) in this clip suggests the MRI (if negative) may mean no needle biopsy. Starting at 1:15.

One of MANY interesting contradictions (or differing opinions in the medical profession) in prostrate health.

Does the PSMA-PET scan not make the biopsy redundant? That is, providing you pay for it (expensive).

I wish it was translated to Spanish so I could best to explain it to my dad.

Dr Urologist said insurance will not pay for MRI until after ultrasound guided through colon is completed 1st. Also said Transperineal biopsy is not possible in the Orange County CA region because the equipment "Stepper" is not available. I told him that UCI medical center in Anaheim has the equipment. PSA =10, 4K score 48, 95cc prostate. Dr. took 16 biopsy samples and found nothing. is something is wrong here? I have very good errrr make that expensive insurance PPO.

Just had one. I have had four others for back, hip, shoulder and knee with no panic issues at all. This MRI seemed to take horribly long and I started to get very anxious the last half hour of it. If I ever have to do it again I'm asking for some med's to make me relax.

This video does not discuss whether a 1.5 Tesla MRI machine is adequate, or is a 3.0 Tesla MRI unit is better. I have read that the 3.0 is now the best standard of acre.

My urologist wants to do a biopsy of my prostate. I suggested this MRI first. He said my insurance won’t go for it. I’m going to get it any way because it makes too much sense. He said even if the MRI shows nothing, he still wants to do a biopsy.

"Biopsies are painful". 1:17 mark. Really? Always had numbing gel and never viewed the needle biopsy route as painful at all. Scheduled for an MRI soon for another check.

With all the imaging technology and markers available the need for dangerous prostate biopsies seems caveman in nature. How about image-guided/targeted focal therapy after MRI imaging instead?

You still end up with a biopsy and more out of pocket money for them, don't forget to say thank you. oh and 3% risk of serious infection
