Howdy guys and gals, in this video, we explain how to lath a Marvin window.

View the video below for those who may not think waterproofing windows is important.

The best window installation company I have yet to witness in 2021 is “Cal Coast Window and Doors,” located in Pleasanton.”
Even their stucco guys are as good as us. That’s mighty good to be all right. 🥂
Their number is 925-398-8184.

Howdy guys and gals, in this video, we explain how to lath a Marvin window.
In this video, we used SikaFlex 1A caulking to fuse the widow frame into the paper; it's an adhesive sealant.

Great video! I need to have my windows replaced ASAP (currently have old aluminum windows and water has been leaking through the head of the frame). Are there any window installation companies in the Bay Area that you can recommend?

Kirk: We're a small Commercial Architectural firm here in Central Florida and big fans of working closely with the Trades to keep improving our drawings & details. Using videos like yours as part of our 'Best Practices' education also helps us to continually improve.

We're impressed with both the technical quality of your work and your presentation skills. Little things like good sound quality and clear video make a big difference in letting people enjoy your videos. Thanks for the education!

Good morning whelenvortexr, no doubt, Anderson widows are top of the line.
I have had my share of repairing around many of these as well.
We usually water proof all windows with a similar method.
Have a great day!

Hey Kirk, First off thanks for spending the time replying to comments.
I ripped apart my old 80x120 single pane aluminum sliding door in Socal. What I found interesting is the way it was set up. All they did was a single sheet of paper up to the flanges, lath, stucco donezo. No fancy wrap, or multiple layers of wrap, no caulking, literally screws around the aluminum frame into wood framing, the paper lath and stucco.
The opening was pristine no water. I see that the waterproofing systems are SO complex now. I'm in Mech. Engr so I can appreciate and understanding wanting to improve and that each window has their own water management system but I still find it incredible that the aluminum frame is what deteriorated the most. Maybe its the climate here...
PS The sikaflex 1A is crazy

Howdy whelen, I’m not sure about Florida, but here in the San Francisco Bay Area, the majority is the three you mentioned are installed. I live in the Bay Area.
Thanks for watching and have a great Memorial Day weekend.

Hello archdynamics, thank you for the compliments.
My son and I are getting better with this show and tell stuff. He has a much better camera and I also use a mike now. (For about the last 100 videos anyways) and since some folks yell at us online about leaving things out we are becoming more aware of what to add in.
Best wishes, and thanks for watching.

Howdy whelenvortex, A fella like me who is simply an applicator of stucco would not know of details like this, so it’s always good to hear from the window installing experts.
Are there more folks with opinions like this out there? If so please reply as I’m now curious.
Best wishes and have a great day!

Good morning Ben, I didn’t actually buy or install the windows. The GC did, I am shown here flashing the windows the way Mavin recommends.
I am just the stucco applicator.
Thanks for watching and have a great day!

I have always found being in the replacement window industry, we find it exceptionally hard to keep that paper barrier in tact while cutting away the stucco and lath to expose a channel around the window. What are your thoughts on simple peel and sticking the wood, then flashing fin and to the cut?

Do they use a lot of Andersen, Marvin, and Pella windows in Florida? I just see aluminum single hungs everywhere when I visit

For Marvin windows with the removable, foldable fins, they aren't waterproof where they attach to the frame. It would seem necessary to also caulk the fin/frame joint, therefore. Wouldn't that be better than caulking on top of the paper seam?

Hi Kirk. Love your videos. Just wondering, all those nails you drive trough the waterproofing around the window can´t water pass through and damage the wall?

hi Kirk, do you recommend gypsum plaster for plastering the windows?or ordinary core plaster?

Could you share the exact polyurethane caulking you use?

Hey Kirk,

I have some newly installed marvin windows I framed in a 2" recessed condition. There is only a 1.5" gap between the side of the window and the return for the recess. This 1.5" gap is filled by the nailing fin. My question is: when I lath, how am I supposed to staple in this 1.5" gap? I'm assuming it's never a good idea to staple the lath into the nailing fin, right?

I like the Pella Double Hungs better than Marvin's. I hate vinyl windows
