My Great Uncle Paul had two of these. In the 1960’s, when we had come to Kentucky for a family reunion, he took me out to the fence line. He said, “ Watch this”. He whistled, and the two behemoths came running towards the fence line. They skidded to a stop inches from the fence. He was petting them, and he proceeded to tell me they were both old, and blind. He said the knacker would come by, and ask him if he wanted to get rid of those old horses. He said, “ They worked hard for me, and here they will stay “. When they passed, he buried them on the farm. Such a kind, and gentle man. Those days, and way of life, are long gone.

Draft horses LOVE to work, it's a thing of theirs. Like big guys like to lift weights. They actually HAVE to stay in shape because they have to support that massive frame of theirs, those bones aren't twigs y'all. Stop hating on the animals that like having a purpose.
It's a shame they are on the endangered list. Such a beautiful horse.
Edit: They have recently made the 'recovering' list of endangered species.

Everyone hating these animals are built for this . This is how farm work was done and in some places still is, it’s better for the environment and doesn’t hurt the horse!

I feel like most of the dislikes are from people who don’t know how nice, hardworking and gentle these horses are. I own 3 of these horses= Bob, Bill, and Dusty. Dusty is an old man and is retired but, is the nicest horse of our 12 horse. Bob and Bill are brothers and are very very strong. Bob is like a giant puppy dog, he loves treats. Bill is nice but also stands his ground. On the other hand he is very protective of someone who loves him, like me. If I’m around other horses or cows in the pasture he comes and stands over me to scare all the others away😂 (which is very annoying if you’re trying to love your other horses). Anyway these horses are so nice and caring. If you love them they will love you❤️

He obviously LIKES his humans(following him) and he knows he’s going to work and welcomes the equipment without restraints or negative body language. I would say there is a content understanding between these two souls❣️❣️👍👍

He put his nose against your arm he wants to snuggled up to you. What a gorgeous, stunningly beautiful and loving horse.

It's amazing how gentle the big horses can be. I worked at a dude ranch once and we had a Clydesdale that we'd put the smallest kids on. He was the steadiest horse on the ranch.

He is only well trained because he is well loved.

Working horses isn't bad just like having service animals isn't either. Intelligent animals need jobs or else they don't feel fulfilled. Just because it's not something that we would like to do doesn't mean they don't like it the same way some people dream of a math degree but to others that's hell. Animals need jobs and that's why the ones who have them are the happiest because everyone needs that structure and accomplishment regardless of species.

I used to see a horse like this working the fields next to the house in Belgium where I lived in the early seventies. Impressive, awesome and there was an atmosphere of peace around it. Quietly given orders by the farmer that led the horse. The immense power of the horse when it had to pull a very heavy weight like big tree-trunks. On me it made an unforgettable impression. And it was genuine, that farmer had only that horse to work with.

The floofy footed jiggle butt run makes me giggle. They're such charming giants. I can only imagine how strong they must be. Im facinated with their gait its so unique among horses I see why theyre used this way . Thats very pretty tackle 💙

What a very good Belgian.  You can see he loves his job!  I love seeing these guys "working". It keeps them busy, and they enjoy it.

He's so chill while he's being all harnessed up. Complete trust in his owner.

I don't know why youtube recommended this video to me so late as I'm a huge horsey person, but I absolutely love it! It's amazing how horse can trust a man, to stand completely still while he's putting gear on and then not react the slightest when the chain touches horse's hind legs and man is walking right behind him, especially while horse has blinders on a bridle. Great amount of trust and love. Also you can clearly see that the horse enjoys his work - his ears are forward and he's walking steady responding to his human. Such a pleasure to watch this. Sending love an appreciation <3

It's always surprising to some people that you can walk right up to the horse and put the bit in without a halter being on or holding the head down.
Mine was a quarter horse and part mustang. Surprised everyone that I could have her tackle ready, call her over and just start putting everything on without a halter or tying her.
It is possible if you treat your horses well and treat them to a treat after the work.
Mine always like a good brush down for about 20 minutes afterwards until she fell asleep.
One person after a walk was removing her tackle and she get kept pushing him with her butt with her ears back. He was cleaning up and I asked if he had brushed her down and he said he didn't. I made him go back and brush her down.
Sure enough, she was having a fit because she wasn't getting her brush down.

He's so beautiful! My grandfather used Belgian draft horses on his Iowa farm in the 1930s and 40s. They were the pride of the farm.
He would go to Missouri to buy them.
