What I used to do when demoing tile with plaster walls was cut with a grinder into manageable sections and have another guy follow your cut with vacuum, then pry it all out with 3’ pry bars.

So dumb! I lived in a house with the towel rails built into tile. The were great- strong, you could grab if slipped, kids jamming heavy, wet stuff towels could not break. Meanwhile I’m over here & can’t use mine cause it keeps coming out of drywall

Doing this right now. That cement backing is 1.5” thick. A 4lb grinder and a 4lb hammer worked for me. Just make enough cuts to weaken a
section, and beat it!

I couldn't tell if he was wearing eye protection bcuz of the "speedy video clip". However, it is very important om a tile demo job like that bcuz that hammer can cause tile slivers to scatter all around after impact. The worst place for any tile slivers to land is anywhere near your 2 eyes. Fyi 😮

Those black ceramic towel rack ends… are they attached on TOP of the white tiles? Or are there holes under them? I have the same ones and I want to bust them off, but I don’t know if there’s tile under them. 😬

I am doing this exact thing now in bathroom the problem I have is someone used liquid nails on the backer board and glued it to the studs. I am using a small slege hammer and the tiles are just breaking into small pieces. I Hate Tile.

It’s Antique, and really clean still. That would last another 100 years.

The replacement will last 10 at most 😢

demo hammer is easier. rigid makes a battery powered one that is handheld for about $150 that i use ALL the time for evertything. Also doubles as a mixer.

I'm an auto tech. I used an air hammer with a cut plastic bowl as a sheath for the shrapnel.

In my experience I hire someone to do the demo work😊 and I just do the tile installation....😊
