I usually score quadrants using an angle grinder and use a hammer Chisel to remove tile remove screws using impact if possible then pry the sections out with my bar. I also use a plug instead of a rag in the flange. I usually cover the tub with ramboard and plastic the walls and shower to ease cleanup. Cover register and tape my outlets.

Cover the tub with thin ply so that when you break tile, the flying tiles dont chip your tub

with a Maddox you can get the tile and the cement board at the same time. a lot less mess and work.

Get a Harbor Freight SDS rotary hammer drill for $99. Saves wear and tear on your body and saves huge time. It’s supposed to be a disposable tool but I’ve used mine on at least 40 floor removals.

I have found it’s better to use a chisel to hit the grout line 1st. Then with the chisel, go under the tile and it comes off in one or two pieces with much much less sharding.

Use a wide chisel with previoulsy thinned out grind, and a sharp edge and strike it with a 1lb hammer

A hammer and flat head screwdriver to pry the tiles is much better than wacking them on top 😅

Could you pry the tiles up with a chisel and hammer, rather than breaking it all up

Get a Milwaukee rotary hammer. It takes me about 20 minutes to break it up. On a smaller floor .

When I was 18 and broke I did it this way. Now I save my back, cleanup, and time using a hammer chisel. Less mess, done in half the time. Lol, but hey same result in the end. Tomatoes.
