When Will My Credit Card Be Closed For Inactivity? – Credit Card Insider

Today's question is: When Will My Credit Card Be Closed For Inactivity?

If you use your credit cards responsibly and make purchases at least once every few months, your credit cards should usually stay open indefinitely. But, if you don't use your cards for an extended period of time then banks don't have an incentive to keep them open, and will probably eventually close them. Use your cards once every few months to keep them open, help keep your credit score up, and avoid the hassle of a closed card.

It depends on the business model of the issuer.. you have to be exploitable for profit.

That is a very beautiful Discover card. I had a Kohls charge card I must have opened it up right after Bradlies closed anybody rember the 2 speciality stores Caldors and Bradlies?
I'm guessing I got that card around 2002 , it closed out I think 2009.
what can we expect it's a charge account.

I called a couple of my financial company's and I believe Discover said a year and a half they said if it's in active.

I forgot what American Express said it might be 2 years.

also my Lord&Taylor charge card closed.

so John suggested that people go to the dry cleaners, fill up your tank or get grocery's.

what do you think about my idea going out to dinner let's say Buffalo wild wings or Friday's or Ruby Tuesday's with the other cards what about buying gift cards to either Walmart, Target or cvs where you can control the price and there easy to use you would always be able to find something at those stores. compared to the gap, Bath and body works, Macy's sears?

This is why I like Discovers rotating category's if I don't know what to use my credit card for I just go into that place whether it be gas stations, home improvements, restaurants I find use for my Discover card.

I have too many of the same types of credit. The cards laying around are a huge temptation for buying things I don't need. So once i pay all of them off, i want to cancel a few of them.

Should i just go ahead and close them my self or cut them up and wait for the card companies to close the inactive ones for me?

***Keeping the 2 oldest cards active (High credit limit) and not using the 3 newer cards at all (low credit limit)

Which option would hurt my credit score less?

(Assume I'm using the active cards at 5% utilization)

*** the newer cards are already hurting my score a little bit because even though I've been using credit for almost 10 years, my average credit age is 3 years.

Hi, I have a credit card (citi) that was recently closed due to inactivity for some time. I have not used it 18 mo. or so. This card I had for years. I pulled my credit report recently and I noticed my score went down. Is their anyway to resolve this? I mean, is their a way to repair my credit in a case like this. Thanks,

Hello,
My back account was closed but I still owe money. I check my back statement and it says that the account was charged off. Do I still need to pay for it? What can I do about it so my credit gets better. Thank you.
