I had a wonderful psychiatrist who told me my problems were situational and I need to learn to set better boundaries. Now years later so many ppl are coming forward saying the withdrawals and side wffect are horrible. I'm so glad I got rid of the General practices who kept diagnosing my symptoms as anxiety. It turns out my gall bladder was making very sick. My new doctor found that out right away.

True, i suffered with terrible anxiety for years. Benzos were unfortunately my last resort. Health anxiety crippled me at times. I take Klonopin daily, but a lower dose. Antidepressants made my anxiety worse. I'm definitely not going to try the antipsychotics they wanted me to try

I’m going to start making one of my life goals as helping to get people get free from these misdiagnoses and treatments because I’ve been on psych meds for 10 years now and they never work right for me and my first ever issue was situational and could have been solved with therapy and if necessary EMDR therapy and no medication would have been necessary!

It depends on the severity of the illness and the severity of the symptoms. I know a schizophrenic who breaks stuff, screams, Hollars, throws things and attacks people. Not taking medications has put herself and everyone around her at risk. She stopped taking medications after someone told her about side effects and now she is out of control

Antidepressant have saved many peoples lives though as well. It’s really a case by case basis. I know I would be a mess without them and I used to be very much against them. It took a lot of trial and error to find the right combination. Living life with less chronic sadness and misery is a good thing, even if one is more emotionally blunted by them. Life long depression is a real struggle for many of us who have had to live with it, whether it’s due to trauma, situations or genetics. There’s no cure for it, but it helps to be a little more comfortable.

Thank you, Dr., for speaking out and for your honesty. I was also put on Paxil about 30 years ago, thankfully weaned myself off after about 10 years, for depression without anyone bothering to look at what in my life I was reacting to and being advised to wait it out and see it will pass. Currently helping my daughter wean off SLOWLY from effexor. Thanks for all your advice and help.
