As someone who mained D/D’s before link format, I will say that Proud Ogre being a level 6 isn’t a bad thing on its own, even though there are MUCH better level 6 monsters available in the archetype, that allows you to make crystal wing fairly easily, but what really hurts the card, aside from being a bricky card much of the time, is in part that restriction on summoning non-d/d monsters from the extra deck, as that does away with sooo many options that the deck has access to. This is in conjunction with, as you mentioned, requiring a normal summon, but also having an effect outclassed by other monsters in the archetype even ignoring that requirement, and having a pendulum scale of 8 when the monsters you’d generally want to be summoning if you’re going to pendulum summon in d/ds are level 8, makes it rather incompatible with the better builds the deck has available. All in all, you were mostly spot on, and this card honestly shouldn’t be used unless you actively want to lose games you otherwise could have won.

Of course, this was all before link format, which I am not knowledgeable about how D/D’s would be played in this format, but I somehow get the feeling this card is still terrible. And yeah, pendulum summoning in D/D’s was more of an option rather than one of the main things the deck does, though looking at the newer cards, it’s probably not as awkward now as it used to be.

I used to play proud ogre along with the other "bad" pendulum monster that came out when they were first introduced. I was playing this sort of swarmy half otk deck where you'd summon the dude that can attack like 3 times and boost his attack by 900 and just win. Everything else was just spamming the wind synchro dude and the fire fusion guy so you can spam even more monsters. I miss that deck :<

Performapal Laugh Maker pretty much has to be tribute summoned with Performapal Revue Dancer. Although you'd probably rather use her to summon Sky Magician. Once he leaves the table to the extra deck you can use Five-Rainbow Magician, who has a scale of 12 but prevents you pendulum summoning except from the extra deck. It also has a pendulum effect that means you need a set spell or trap card on the field to make it worthwhile.

Did you not know the point of Xiaosheng Magician? It's meant to be used with Xiangke magician so you can make Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon with Dark Rebellion and Odd-eyes, because Xiangke gives it a level equal to it's rank. That's how you get Rebellion and Raging Dragon's extra effects.
