the best roadhog tip is to always drag the enemies into big holes in the middle of the map with your hook

I always grab DPS mostly cause they are like annoying flies but I also always grab sigma cause I don't like him chucking rocks at me from so far away

Actually hooking tanks can be a good thing if you hook the tank into your team. First, it allows your team to help focus it without much backup. Second, most dps and healers are going to be easy picking after the tank is dead. Gotta connect the hook first and quickly swing your mouse to move them (body block the tank afterwards so it'll stall them getting back to their team). Real top tip for new Roadhog's: Roadhog has a secondary. I did not know that until now and I've played Roadhog for over 10 hours and gotten several "Play of the game's".

I've used his hook to yank tanks that stick too close to their supports to get my entire team to light em up. Hooks are situation and your suggestion is good for newer roadhogs, but intuition and instinct can be better.

While having someone hooked you can turn to the side and they will end up on that side in front of you. helpful when you're at the edge of a map, allowing you to drop them off into the pit, or takes them out of position allowing your team to focusfired them (especially a tank, but it can sometimes backfire)

I actually think using hook against zarya is a great counter to her since she must use a bubble after she gets hooked, making her an easier target

Another good thing to mention is that the “hook shoot melee” is only good if it will kill, since the if the melee wont kill the enemy, it is more dps to just shoot again. But most times the melee is good if you aim the first shot right.

Hooking a tank is exceptionally useful in the circumstance of ripping them away from their team into your group to kill them off. It pulls away an opposing teams defense.

my biggest bad habit as hog is losing count of my scrap and forgetting to reload before going for the hook n shot

Don't forget you can also shoot before hooking to make sure you get the kill, it's especially useful on targets like Moira and Reaper who can escape really easily if you're not fast, so the combo would go shoot, hook, shoot, melee

Just another tip for anyone having trouble with knowing when you’re more/less then 10 meters away from an enemy, if you ping them, it’ll tell you your exact distance to them
