Once again, David created the Protomorph, wich are entirely organic creatures. The Xenomorphs, which were around for thousands of years before David (they were probably created by the Engineers with the blood of the First Deacon) are bio-meccanic creatures.

If you had watched movies, when David and team reached the temple on that military base of a planet there were already depictions of the xenomorph like life form imprinted on the wall. This may prompt some to say that the black goo was itself re-engineered from xenomorph by the engineers. They have been creating and destroying life forms across galaxies only to be falling a victim to their own failed experiments.

an awful lot of stupidity in this movie... David didn't kill Shawn, she died because she was sick. David didn't blame the engineers, but the race of them who worship them.Shawn wasn't a xenomorph mother, just a protomorph
