It is funny how people call others ugly, when they or their girlfriends are ugly for real

I always thought this joke had something to do with the fact that during the making of The Shining, Stanley Kubrick told the cast not to sympathize with Shelly to really get her into character, he would tell her how bad she was, eventhough it wasnt true, and make her reshoot the same scene over and over to break her spirit. And if you watch the shining, you can see how broken she is. The ends justify the means. But...as the joke about Kevin Spacey and Bruce Jenner, maybe it the joke had to do with something Seth knew about those people that we didnt.

The joke isn't at the expense at Shelley Duvall, it's that Peter is overly sensitive and obnoxious. And this was before it was known she was ill.
