Even though I don't think we'll get it in The Winds of Winter.... but I would love to read a conversation between Victarion and Stannis, two very similar personalities, strong battle commanders, great leaders with a strong sense of empathy and justice. It would definitely be a fascinating conversation. After all Stannis did beat Victarion during the Greyjoy rebellion.

What about the red priest he plucked from the sea? The dusky woman is Mormont’s wife.

So, my argument for why Victarion can tame a dragon is simple, and has nothing to do with the dragon horn. Nettles tamed a dragon by feeding it sheep until it was docile, Victarion has a whole chapter devoted to him picking up a load of pork from the basilisk islands. (spoilers for TWOW) his three thralls are going to blow the horn, and it probably won't do anything other then attract the dragon, the ship full of bacon is what's gonna tame the dragon.

And one thing i think you missed, which i feel is very important for victarions story is how he foils Euron. Euron has a bunch of priests that he tortures for power, warlocks, septons, his own brother, doesn't matter he don't give a shit. Victarion on the other hand is also collecting priests, and unlike euron, he is trying to forge a new syncretic religion between the drowned god and the lord of light. Considering that the Drowngod and the Lord of the light are the two gods we have the most evidence for (other then the old gods who we've met) it will be interesting to see how that works out for him. Will he have the power of two gods behind him, or is he pissing off both gods by acknowledging the other?
