There's a theory that you can only lay hands on Griffith if you don't harbor ill intentions or malevolence towards him. That would explain why Rickert, who could never truly hate Griffith, was able to bitch-slap him, which was the first time Griffith was actually harmed in any way since becoming a god hand member.

In their last encounter guts *did* land a hit on him. It just didn’t do anything. Also skullknight came at Griffith with a sword *made* of behelits and Griffith was just like “thanks dawg, gonna just yoink to combine the physical and astral world”.

There's a guy who has this theory that Sonya will betray Griffith by telling everyone the truth about the band of the hawk and as guts and Griffith fights, Guts will be nearly killed and Griffith takes his behelit. Right as he summons the Godhand, Guts will break the behelit and thus severs Causality and removing Griffiths status as a Godhand.

Why would Griffith summon the Godhand? Well, once people realize he's a fraud, his fantasy is ruined and the only way the Godhand get their power is through fear and malice and lies so he needs the rest of the Godhand to intervene to enact that fear back into place.

Another insane theory could go as guts relying in the power of the mark and the infused behelith DragonSlayer giving up his humanity to became a monster so that way he could kill Griffith, ending his own life as soon as he finish Griffith in order to acomplish his vengace and not being taken as an eternal slave of hand of god

Guts ran through all the stages of grief through out the story:
he was in denial when he ran away from the cave and met skull knight right after the eclipse, then during the entire quest to recover cascas meomries he was in anger, right after casca recovered he entered bargaining, and right now he was left in a deep state of depression

so it does really look like hes about to enter Acceptance.
