⚠️ Train Harder, Not Smarter.
🇬🇧 Documenting my life ‘on the run’ in Japan!

After racking up well over 1000km of running, during my 4 week altitude training camp in the Japanese mountains... something went horribly wrong! When I returned to Tokyo my performances started to plummet, I was constantly knackered and was struggling to recover after training sessions. All the signs were pointing to an iron deficiency, because it couldn’t possibly be that I was just overtraining - right?! 📉

Honestly really appreciate you showing the phone call and struggle of interacting in a different language. As someone also living abroad it’s so validating.

The fact that you still slogged out a 2:18 marathon with an iron deficiency is absolutely wild! The sky's the limit! Keep going mate 💪

Bro, I thought moving to a diff state in the US on my own and putting myself through the medical field was hard but moving to a new country and learning the language and culture on your own while slamming 175 mile weeks is nuts.

Nuts, but admirable. I’m subbed man.

Good on you for first trying to call the clinic in Japanese, its quite daunting but the more you put yourself out there, the better you get. And you are already quite good! Benkyo harder, not smarter

Joke’s on you. In sorting out that iron deficiency problem, you’re training harder AND smarter. 😮

From my experience taking iron supplements in conjunction with vitamin C seemed to help speed up recovery from iron deficiency. Scientific literature is not conclusive that this improves absorption but it seems like it helped me. Another good tip is to limit fluid intake ~30 before meals. Drinking too much water for example dilutes the stomach acid and makes it harder to extract out nutrients like iron from food

I enjoy your channel very much and your enthusiasm. Glad you found out it was an iron issue as it can impact your daily life too - hair falls out, depression etc. Very coincidental after I saw your iron issue, on another channel Philly Bowden found out she had the same issue too. I suffer from low iron, vitamin c helps with absorption. I’m going to run Tokyo marathon but at a goal time of 4:45😀

Seeing your phone call in Japanese reminds me of when I was living in Taiwan and have to communicate by phone in Mandarin. Always waiting for an English speaker to help hahaha.
Really enjoy watching your channel, keep it up!
