Jake Barraclough, aka "Ran To Japan"
⚠️ Train Harder, Not Smarter.
🇬🇧 Documenting my life ‘on the run’ in Japan!

So last week, I couldn’t walk without a crippling pain in my knee and my journey to become the “world’s least talented pro runner” looked like it was firmly on hold. But wait a second… What the bloody hell am I doing now lining up at the start of a marathon only 1 week later?! Is this a smart idea? Errr probably not but hear me out, there’s method to the mileage! 📝

“Forget your 10% rule, it is all about 500% increase.” 🥶 the coldest line I ever heard about running 🏃

It’s a Sunday morning, we’ve bashed out our runs, we’re back home pumped from our Strava statistics with a coffee watching Jake live his best life and inspiring us. Kudos legend

Oh man, what an inspiration again! Makes me wanna cry (out of joy) and laugh at the same time. The vibes are just incredible.
I started my running journey in March 24 at age 42. Ran my first ever HM in June and finished in 1:59:01, and ran my first ever marathon in Oct. in 4:15:08; it was a „disaster“. Then I found this channel… the inspiration, motivation and energy it gave me are indescribable. Tripled my weekly mileage since and, fast forward, ran a new HM PB today in 1:37:21. Seriously, Jake, I couldn’t have done it without you!!! Next marathon is in 3 weeks but the big goal for this year is sub3:30 in Berlin.

What an absurdly rapid return to form. I've also been off recently with an injury, and I'm dealing with the psychological questions of whether or not I'm re-injuring myself. Your training really inspires me, and I hope that I can smash it as hard as you!

This was great. I have never thought about ultra long power walks for cross training. I’m learning a lot from your Japanese experience! thanks!

I had the hip arthroscopy done at 31. It’s a brutal one. Prob 10 months before I felt OK running. For a long while I thought the surgery had failed too. Really builds the mental fortitude when you make it out the other side though.

Thank you for the Sunday morning pick me up, yet again! I had a 10K yesterday that did not go well, but after I watch a Jake video, I contextualize it all as part of the journey towards becoming a better runner in the future. The positivity and mindset takeaways set me up nicely every single time!!

I’ve been watching these vlogs for nearly six months and this is without doubt the craziest yet. Just one week from first aid tent to a marathon start line. I’ve got a new mantra to motivate me in my own running, that being “what would Jake do at this point”

Saw this pop up on Strava and just had a little chuckle to myself - you’re mental, but fair play to you 😅💪🏻

Jake, look into heavy ass compound lifts to do when you are injured. 1-3rep max squats in order to stress the muscles evenly in concentric form. Stretch&sauna after lifting in order to get that muscle to relax evenly. Once it relaxes evening then it will reduce the connective tissue strain that surrounds it

Love hearing about your running history very enjoyable. You should do a breakdown of your progression too
