The cropped jacket is so cute 🥺 i'm so glad you went with your choice (but that's how i do things when i'm hesitating between 2 things lmao, i ask ppl to choose for me and if i disagree with the result... well, i kinda already knew what i wanted, i just didn't realize)

If you have time, you could make the double collar and have it snap on on the inside. That could make the two jackets you were envisioning for the show. They wouldn't have to be perfect for the stage production and would give a different feel to the whole thing. And a black collars would be perfect for the funeral scene.

Some artists use a "studio log" which records all the data applicable to a work. I have one for my pottery studio in which I record inspiration, any forms /tools used, type of clay, firing temps, and glaze or glazes. Every time I make something I truly believe that it is firmly entrenched in my memory. A few years later I can look at a piece and wonder if it is one I made. (I have actually checked for It seems like a great deal of faff at the time - but that log book has saved me many times. Many times. I do recommend the practice. However, I see why you might see it as unnecessary and a waste of life. Just offering the example. Love the new garment direction.

LOL! I understand the weight thing. I made my own Doctor Strange Infinity Cloak from scratch, using three layers of material (one was a rather heavy felt-ish material) and a lot of trim and embroidery, and the darn thing is close to 10lbs. I wore it all day twice, and OMG my shoulders were SO SORE. My current cosplay project is made out of linen and cotton, THANK GOODNESS. Lesson learned!

Great! Because I am so far along in years, there's no time to waste dithering. And I am such ditherer. My dither-reduction method is (when there are two choices) Toss A Coin. If you like what the coin says, go with that. If you *don't*, then choose the other. This honestly has saved me hours. No good if there are three choices. I always err on the side like: I will make the long as I could cut it shorter later....

"Collars are hard... and I don't want to..."

This is totally a vibe that I feel all too often.

Collars are evil. Worse than sleeves as far as I’m concerned.

If you make the Swiss waist tall enough you may be able to wear the jacket tucked and untucked. That could give you the 2 different looks for the scenes you were originally wanting.

You need to consult some resources on “tailoring “ to find out more about traditional ways of creating lapels, especially a notched or 2 pc. one. A lapel usually has a layer of interfacing to give it more structure and help keep it in place on your fold line.

Love the pet hair decoration on the bolt of fabric, definitely an individual embelishment. lol xxx

The jacket looks wonderful! I really enjoy the realization that all sewers think out loud when we go off the pattern! I also like the look without the collar. Your going to look great on stage!!

Hi, it's so pretty, I think you did an amazing job making the skirt and most of the jacket in such a short time.💖

Glad you skipped second collar. I love the way you're going. Wish I could come see you in play. Break a leg. Don't second guess yourself, you have great style and taste. Good luck.

100% team collars make my brain hurt. Wrapping my head around what's outside vs inside and order of operations....relatable as all get out

If you add little darts at the neck edge, on either side of the center back seam, you will find the fit is better. Most women have a small rise in this area of the neck / upper back and tiny darts make the fit and comfort level better. Also will help with any collars sitting flatter and not rising up especially when sitting. But looking gooood

Looking at the fashion plate, and the difficulty of making everything come together, i wonder if the collar is an entirely separate piece

I think at least some of the extra fabric at the back of the neck is ease for the fold collar. I've seen a shoulder adjustment to add a shawl collar to a block, so you could plan the reverse, if you're ever removing a collar again.

I wish I could see the show but I'm more than certain my infant wouldn't sit quietly long enough to enjoy it.

Getting opinions on different options is the best way of realizing which option you don't like.
