I won’t lie. When I first saw the trailer for Flow I thought it was a video game. I watch it with my parents and it even without dialogue it’s told very beautiful.

My take - the cat is lingering in a place where they were once "worshiped" - drawn, sculpted, carved into mountains. But their worshiper (owner) is gone. When the flood overtakes even the largest monument, that is when the cat must throw away their ego, and become like the capybara (friend to all), and eventually like the secretary bird (so selfless and loving that they eventually ascend). Lemur goes through a similar journey, abandoning their possessions. I found it a very beautiful film about spiritual growth.

While watching, I thought the animals were actually the missing humans, especially when the lemur was collecting his possessions. The cat didn’t live with a human; that was the cat’s house. So, more metaphor than allegory. The world felt like a purgatory with repeating floods to cleanse those left behind. I was reminded of “Life of Pi” and this was “the better story.”

My heart just broke at the cat’s meows anytime it was distressed and for the secretarybird getting its wing broken for standing up for the cat.🥺
I’ve heard the theory that the bird sacrificed itself in order to get the flood waters to recede, but your take on it being like the nephilim forced to rise back to heaven makes a lot of sense, so I think yours is my new favorite.❤❤️❤️

I didn’t view this movie through western religion at all. I assumed that all the visual symbolism of circles and reflections was leaning into Buddhist philosophy and the secretary bird, having overcome its nature to show empathy, self sacrifice, and an understanding of that they are all connected in this disaster, eventually achieves transcendence.

im so proud that something that is partly made by a latvian is so well known because our county is not very well known but we have talanted and amazing artists im going to the school the artist went in not officially yet but im gonna be trying to get in ^^

When people ask me what my favorite movie is, I now have an answer. This made me cry so so hard. My cat is one of my favorite people and this movie made me love him even more. He also stayed with me watched this movie for quite some time.

This is the story of the end of a planet's terrain population when a large comet or moon visits the planet regularly and gets too close as told through the activities of a cat and other animals. The human type population has already died. The cat and a large bird are ultimately drawn to the location where the comet comes closest to the planet. The aquatic animals survive because every time the gravity passes overhead a tremendous wave accompanies it covering the land. It lasts long enough for most things to drown. Only those landbased animals, or those who can fly, and take refuge on the tallest landforms survive or those in boats, at least for a while.

Something that came to my mind when I watched it is it could be a post apocalyptic world where all humans died because a lot of man made structures have overgrowth on them in the movie
