Seeing the blue design immediately makes me think of a Sonic the Hedgehog. And seeing the great scales me me think it would be a much simpler way to spoof chain mail or over lapping plate mail. Remember the British soldiers mail shirts in Braveheart?

Great tutorial! I was going to keep experimenting with my fully 3D printed fabric, but this is soooo tempting I might change course :P

Uncle Jessy Thank you so much for the giving me credit on my design. I use Cura { Extensions > Post Processing > Modify G-Code (Add a script) Pause at height}. Also cheap stiff Tulle has had strength issues. Nylon based mesh has been working well for me.

FYI just learned that fabric is called Tulle which is pronounced Tool hahaha ignore the guy saying it wrong throughout the entire video 😂

Hey, wait -- forget cosplay for a second and consider that you're basically adding nylon fiber infill to a PLA print. What would it do for raw part strength to do this multiple times for a single part, especially focusing on getting it into layers near the top and bottom, and even more especially with a less-flexible material than nylon?

This could be great for Thor "scale" armor from before Ragnarok! :D

I don't have access to a 3-D printer.
I don't cosplay.

And yet, I feel like I needed to know this, and feel better knowing it.

It’s fun and i prefer a stretch mesh because it’s a stronger fabric plus stretch, and people have had success with organza. Also tulle is read as “tool” 👍

This hack is going to save so many crafters time, glue, patience, etc. I love it.

I love my Thule roof racks and I'm stoked that they're getting into fabric-making!

for reference this code tells it to stop before printing layer X (so if you want it to print 2 layers then stop, X would be 3) it can also be easily altered to not only move x, y to 0, 0, but you can also choose a value for z to get the print head to lift as well. you could also choose a value like 300 for Y (on the CR10) to make the bed more accessible. just be careful not to move anything.

This reminds me of the mats of tiles they have at Floor & Decor. The tiles are arranged in the correct pattern and adhered to a foam mesh mat of the kind you’d put under a rug to keep it from slipping on a wood floor.

Great video! Have you tried this technique using power net, which stretches, as well as using tulle (pronounced TOOL), which does not stretch, to compare the end products in a finished costume? The power net-backed product would tend to mold much more easily to the body, as well as allowing easier movement when worn.

It’s so strange how there are some unlikes... like the guy showed us how to make something cool, and the video was good quality haha

that blue spikes remind me of sonic for some reason, would be nice to use that thing in an armor, maybe some monster hunter armor :D

This is great! I can see some practical applications for this for prototyping safety gear, for example. Awesome stuff!

Oh my God oh my God oh my God! Thank you for this! Now, off to the printer cave to make RWBY weapons and cosplay with this!

I see people suggesting using chiffon and other sturdier fabrics, but those are usually more expensive. For lower budgets, the tulle like he’s using would work, and you could then reinforce the edges with interfacing scraps, twill tape, sturdier fabric scraps, etc, before sewing the tulle over another fabric. Of course, if you want this to last for multiple wears over a long period of time I would suggest trying to have a larger budget for any type of project that would require this technique.
