It was such a missed oppurtunity to have one of Mario's matches be a free 4 all against Donkey Kong, Yoshi and Pikachu in a grassy level like Dream Land to refrence the iconic Smash 64 commercial.

I love how sephiroth is killing all bosses but in his fight with master hand and crazy hand, one winged angel plays. The hands aren’t the final boss, sephiroth is!

Cloud definitely needs an update to his classic mode, to put both the FF7 tracks and Sephiroth as the final match instead of the hands.

It's pretty funny to hear these all in order and hear Aaron get increasingly more frustrated with any route that ends with the Hands.

I'm surprised Galleom wasn't used for Shulk's final fight. You could easily make a connection between Galleom and Shulk's greatest enemy, Metal Face.

I always figured Samus fighting the 6 R.O.B.s was a reference to Subspace Emissary, where she was the first character to actually fight R.O.B. robots outside of any cutscenes

I love the way they’ll stuff the entire classic mode with references including the end screen of the credits but then just have the final boss be master hand 💀

Another cool fact to add about Sora's classic route:
After clearing the Olympus Coliseum world, before he leaves to go to the next world, Cloud teaches Sora the Sonic Blade ability, which is Sora’s Side B move. Then he says, "How about a rematch sometime? Fair and square, no dark powers involved!"
And now they're having it in Smash. c:

Simon's fight against Charizard and Dedede is probably actually a reference to Slogra and Gaibon, bosses from Super Castlevania 4 who often are teamed up in some way.

for steves classic mode, the "final destination = the end" reference holds up in japanese as the japanese name for final destination is "endpoint" so it's an even better match

Your career doesn’t have to stop here. Two words: Spirit Board.

"You thought it would be a themed final boss? But it is us! Master and Crazy Hand!"

In Ness's route, the fight against Sheik isn't supposed to be Dusty Dunes Desert, it's meant to be Scaraba, and Sheik is meant to be a mummy

For Sephiroth, I can add that he fights against a Rathalos first in reference to the fact that the first time you properly see Sephiroth fighting in the original game is when he kills a giant dragon in Cloud's Nibelheim flashback.

I actually think Crazy Hand would be a better boss for Richter’s classic mode, due to the whole echo fighter thing.

For Snake's mirror match, I think it's worth mentioning that the enemy Snake uses a costume that resembles Big Boss's outfit in MGS3, which could be a reference to the fact that Big Boss was Snake's first nemesis in the original Metal Gear games.

I want to add that if you play Link's Classic Mode with the Dark Link alt, Link will take place of Dark Link.

I was genuinely hoping that Lucina would be one of Sheik’s opponents considering that she hid her identity for a good portion of the game

Peach fighting Master Hand might work since you could say he captured the entire Smash Cast.
Falco fighting both hands could also be a reference to the Andross fight since it begins by shooting the hands.

Something else about the Fox classic mode, is that Master Hand and Crazy Hand could also parallel Andross's bossfight throughout the games, typically a robot monkey head with 2 disembodied floating robot hands.
